30 sherman magnum

Yes thank you. I am really enjoying the 30SM. I think it pushes the 300Norma mag and or a 338LM out of the picture for me. I am surprised more people aren't running it.
Running the numbers yesterday with the 250gr A-Tips at 2935fps muzzle velocity did not go transonic until 2100 yards. Freaking awesome.
There are a lot of people starting to run it and they all have the same experience as you, as far as Ive heard.

Well
I get 3180 FPS with the hammer 214z
Ever notice those same guys say you can't get that extra speed with less powder unless way over pressure are the same guys that comment on how great the 33-37xc are. Even though they punch way above their weight.
I'm very happy with mine.

I started out with a 28" M24 9 twist SS Proof barrel chambered in 300PRC. I was running it at 2943fps with 225gr ELDM's and RL26. Can't remember the exact powder charge. I had a chance to get a Straight Jacket Armory chambered 28" M24 8 twist Bartlein in 30 Sherman Magnum. I am running 225grELDM'S around 3020fps in a lower node. I have been extremely happy with the 30SM.

Here we go again. Just when I settled on the 300PRC, I've got 30SM back in my sights. Improved brass, reserve power, why not ?

Easy decision, unless you don't reload.
Ya here's the thing. Half the people that "say" they've ran that cartridge, claim it's not much better performance wise than the PRC. The other half the opposite. They give results like these recent threads. I guess going with the improved brass wear being less and a bit more capacity for heavier bullets will by my purpose for the improved cartridge if I do decide on it. Sure looks appealing.

Yep I've heard people say it is not much better but hard to believe.
I couldn't jump on the PRC because ri have such a good shooting 300 win mag. Then when I see the Sherman I said ok that's enough of a gain.
I can say from my experience with the two 30's I've had built. Mine and my brothers. Both did exactly what rich said they would. In fact Pierce engineering did both them and we both ended with the exact same load to within 20fps of each other.
I guess for me it was no big deal if it didn't do what he said.
Mainly because I don't do final load work till barrel is broke in 100 rounds. So I use that first 100 to form brass and enjoy shooting.
Same thing I would do with a new prc before load work.
