30 sherman magnum

I got out this afternoon for a bit and busted through some snow Banks with the 4 wheeler to get up to a private spot to test some RL33 in the 30. Laying in the wet logging road wasn't the most comfortable and I found out the ticks we're already out, but was able to get a fair rest. I first tested for velocity with the 215 Berger and the top load I had with 91 grains clocked 3196' for a single shot over the magspeed. The primer held and no sticky bolt lift but likely would only get about 3 firings with this load! The 2 loads that I tested for seating depths accuracy were charged with 88 grains for 3067'. The first load was at 3.720" which was .012" off the lands and the second at 3.741" was jammed .009". Both were .4 or better for 4 and 5 shots. I wish I had more N570 as it showed well the first time out. It's probably time for a good cleaning too as I'm at 100 rounds down the barrel.

Looks good Rich. Will the dies be shipping this week?

I passed the word around the best I could but if anyone didn't get the message, I had to ship all the dies back to rework:confused:
I shot a couple loads today until the mirage got ridiculous but the 88 grain load of RL33 behind the 215 shot well at 3067'. Range was 205 yards. I don't know if the vertical was me, the load, mirage, or what? I will re test again on a cloudy day.
I also shot up to 83 grains of H1000 with no over pressure signs at 3073'. I will try to run it hotter next trip.

I maxed out with 215s at 86.5 H1000.
87 blew a primer at 3206. 83 RL23 overpressured at 3223. 82 RL23 ran 3198. So I think with your 28" tube you will surpass these speeds. Both these powders shoot pretty well.

Smokin'
With 87 H1000, I would be crowding 3300':eek::eek: . I don't think I could load more than 85 in my rifle, but we'll see.
Are you shooting your elongated version with RWS brass?
Actually, I ran 3073' with 83 grains H1000
3113' was 89 RL33. I just corrected my original post.

I tried RL23 today to see if it was a viable powder in the 30. I reached what I would consider at or a little over what I would shoot in it at 77 grains behind the 215 at 3111'. It did shoot well but was higher pressure than I hit at 91 grains of RL33 for 3196'.

Rich,
Can I resize the brass back to the standard 300PRC after its been fire formed with ruining it?

Just trying to think of something to get me by until whidden corrects the die issue.
