30 Sherman Magnum 20” Build

Shot the ladder this evening at 750 yards.

Shot 84.9 and 85.2 this evening at 750 yards. The wind was up so Il shoot again in better conditions. I pulled one on the 84.9 charge in the second group so I suspect it will do much better when I shoot them again. Also still getting clickers, I'm going to reach out to Rich about getting one of the newer sizing dies. On the second pic the shot I have marked out was one from the original ladder test so ignore it.

Got my load finished up with N570 and the 215s. Rich was nice enough to send me a new sizing die that sizes the base down smaller to get rid of the clickers.

Did some seating depth testing and ended up with 84.9gr, +.004" at 2950fps. Some of the pics say .000" but I just measured to the lands again after 278 rounds through the tube now and the throat has worn .004". Also shot the last 2 factory Hornady 300 PRC rounds I had in 212 ELD-X. They averaged 2750fps out of my 20" barrel.

These were shot at 755 yds in high winds. Im sure Il shoot smaller groups if I ever get a calm morning to shoot in.

This next group was shot at 1308 yards 4mph @ 10cl wind. It was the best of the 3 groups I shot at that range and is 4.2" vertical by 10" wide. I shot 2 more groups that went 1&1.5 MOA.

Went out today and Pressure Tested Rl26, Ramshot LRT, and N570 again as it has warmed up.

Something to note with LRT. Over a 4gr spread ES was 4.

All 3 of these powders are top performers regarding velocity. Also have RL33 but didn't test it, I expect it will produce simular velocities.

I had planned on testing more powder and bullet combos. Might still try the 214 Hammer Hunters at some point. But it's shooting good with my N570 load now, so Il probably just leave it alone to live out a long life of dropping animals.

I was hoping to be around 2900fps. But the rifle shoots best at 2949fps with 84.9gr of n570 so I shoot it there. The ej mark at 86 is a light one. I put 10 firings on one piece of brass at 85.8gr and pockets were still tight no ej mark, I could have gotten more but got tired of messing with it.

Man if that ramshot lrt is temp stable, I'd run it. That node is huge! Single shot velocity test like this need more evaluation but that's very optimistic. I have 4 pounds of it, but never tried it in anything.

Some good powder/pressure/MV data there. Thanks for sharing.
Quick question... the C means compressed powder charge?

Highdrum, LRT is very tempting right now but I only have one pound of it. Although I have access to more. Still might see how accuracy is, an initial node that wide is hard to ignore. It's a ball powder so I doubt it's stable as some of the stick powders. That's why I like pressure testing in 100* weather.

The C is for Compressed powder charge.

I've had good luck and got some fast proof CF bbls. The 30SM is within 1gr h20 cap. of a 30 Nosler and I know BignGreen has a 20" 30 nos +P that's running 215s at 2970fps. So it's nice to see the data lining up.

Chill some over night in the freezer, inside a hydroflask, put in cooler and take to range, check velocity. I'm curious how bad the vo drops. I loaded some my 6.5max cases with lrt last night after reading this. It'll hold 74gr before compressed with a 156 berger. I only loaded to 72.5 though.
