30-378 vs 300 rum

I have run the 150 Partition at 3635 with 96 grs RL22
180 Balistic Tips at 3425 with 95 grs RL25
200 SMK at 3190 with 94 grs H-1000

I ussualy get 5-6 loadings before the primers get loose, but every now and then I will have one get loose the 2nd or 3rd shot,I figured I was running at the edge of the redline, but safe.

with this detenation theory,do you think I should back off 50 or 75 fps???I get a flier every now and then also,I wonder if these are related problems???

Using quickload for input and what you have going on I would venture a guess that you might be running very near the 70k pressure mark with those loads. FOR SURE if accuracy is as good 50-75 fps slower I would be slowing them down. JMHO>

Mr. Big,

From what I have tested in the 300 RUM, I would say your 150 gr and 200 gr loads are right at top end working loads. Your 180 gr load is a bit warm for my liking as I find high 3300 fps ranges about the limits with a 300 RUM.

YOu may be playing with the detonation issue resulting in those occasional premature loosened primer pockets.

As already mentioned, if you drop 75 fps and retain the same level of accuracy, it would be a better way to go in my opinion. At any range, you will never miss even 100 fps less in velocity.

the 150 Partition load is my go to deer load where I limit myself to around 500 yards, its scary accurate with that load and flatter than a banjo string to 500,

if I have to slow the 200`s much the 150`s at speed will out perform them at least to the 500 yard mark, and thats all I`m good for anyway.

I figure this thing has about 2-3 more seasons in it then I may look into something else to screw on Jessica.
