retumbo vs n570 in 300 rum testing

I posted this burn rate chart elsewhere, but maybe it's helpful if I put it here too.

I guess you have to click on it to open it.

i am swapping over to all viht powders, i am not happy with hodgdons price gouging/monopolizing tactics. alliant powders are just as bad as hodgdon and availability is even worse.

if anyone lives near central pa i got a bunch of hodgdon and ramshot powders i'll sell ya cheap lol

the next powder i may try and play with for grins is LRT or 24n41
I'm in central PA too. Shoot me a message about the powder, if you don't mind.

Good choice. I have the exact same gun as you do and it seems to like most everything I throw at it. My pet hunting load was 110.2 grains of H-870 with a 165gr Accubond that shot very well and was averaging 3,350 fps. However, they don't make H-870 anymore so I was looking at RL 33 (which is now impossible to find) for an alternative. But, I was able to get my hands on 10 lbs of LRT and it has a burn rate very close to RL 33. In fact, the LRT shoots awesome in my 28 Nosler. If you run out of RL 33 you might try LRT.
Would you mind sharing your 28nos load with the LRT ?
I have 11 pounds of n570 for my 28nos but looking for other loads as well

There been a lot of talk here. Burn Rates H-1000 161, Retumbo 164, and N570 169. Not much difference there. Now temp changes in velocity. H 1000 .21fps per degree, Retumbo .49fps per 1 degree, N570 0.97 fps change per degree.
So your temp changes about 100 degree during the year. So put your load development in the middle of the temp. So that's 48fps with N570, Retumbo 24.5pfs, H1000 that's 10.5 ft fps. Now If you only shooting a few hundreds, it doesn't make much different. If your ranges are extend it does make a different, what was the temp when you are developing you load does make a different too.
Your SD change in velocity just 30fps variation of your bullet drop about 8.5" @ 1000yds, A 50fps variation would change you bullet by as much as 14" @ 1000yds.
Me I hunt in about as much as 130 degree different during the year. Middle of the road is 63fps with N570. H-1000 13.65fps change from middle to hight or low temp.
It's okay. Buy the N570. I'll take the H-1000 Retumbo, and it hard to get. Why do you think their prices are so high?

i don't shoot my precision rifles in extreme conditions, so this is mostly irrelevant to my application.

In the event I need to shoot long range in the cold, i'll go out in similar temps the week before and get some chrono data, easy enough.

I definitely see the allure for a hardcore hunter that sees such rapid swings such as yourself.

Hodgdon powders are expensive because they are monopolizing middlemen since covid and its what everyone else is used to using because they were always priced much better than VV, but the tides have turned and more people are switching.

Where did you get the 0.97 for N570 ? I have been looking but never seen it listed, thanks !
kinda hard to find, but they are out there.

So how would you figure out say 50 degree difference to the cold side but also go from 500ft above sea-level to say 4500-5500 ft. This kind of stuff is interesting to me, but I'm lost as where to start.

thats where a ballistics calculator is required.

the elevation increase shouldn't change a 100 yard zero, but the velocity loss may, so i'd suggest a 100 yard zero check

the ballistics calc will take care of the rest

Not a chance that N570 is .97FPS/ per degree
