28 Nosler with 195 Bergers

@Sandman What does March call that reticle? I went to their website and couldn't seem to find it. I would love that reticle on a hunting rifle.

FML-1 I believe. Here is a photo from my box:

Hope that helps.

I had not seen anything on 8133 for the 28, I'll keep my eyes open from some too!!!

I was told by a couple of guys that load 1000s of rounds a year that 8133 is very similar to Retumbo's burn rate.

Nice rifle and good luck in Montana. Be sure to post up the buck you kill! The 195s are awesome.
Is that a Saami chamber or custom setup for 195s? Also what brass and primer are you running? That's awesome velocity.

We should really keep quiet about it. Its a powder you can actually find... for now.

I have loaded for 33 different 28 Noslers to date.
I always used RL33 or N570 until they became nearly impossible to find and I was down to 2 pounds of each.

I tried IMR8133 in two different rifles. A 1:9" running the 184 Hyb and a 1:8" running the 195s. They both did very well.

So, once I finally got my own 28 Nosler, I went with IMR8133 myself. I am 83.1gr @ .022" jump in a custom chamber, and getting 3084fps 6ES across 16 rounds. Round count is right at 62.

During scope sight in, shot 3 @ 100.

Moved it out to 200, adjusted scope, and put 3 more down. My bench shooting is always just a touch left from my prone shooting, so this should be perfect. Have to go stretch it legs and verify at distance still.

Looks great Lance! Your attention to detail with your loading sure shows in the results.

So after loading for 33 28 nosler what did you choose for twist rate ? I have a Cooper firearms with a proof research carbon fiber barrel with 1-8 twist .could not get it to patern the 168 barns so I dropped to 150s almost out of H1000 thinking about switching powders and trying the 168 again.

In a 1:8 twist 28 Nosler I would choose the 195's if I had the magazine room, otherwise 180 or 184's. I wouldn't try to go as light as 150-160 class bullets with that much twist.

1:8" all the way. The 177 Hammer, 190 LR Hyb, 195 EOL and 197 SMK beg for the fast twist and big case capacity. The 175-184s still shoot great in them too. If I wanted to shoot anything lighter, I would go with a 7RM or .280AI.
Not exactly sure why you would go lighter in a 28 Nosler. In my opinion, they were built to run the heavies with that case capacity. But, a super fast copper 140-155 would sure put a whooping on game for a medium range Kaibab gun.

Everything i have read i should be shooting heavier bullets i just could not get them to shoot well in my gun that why I'm shooting the barns 150 ttsx. Now that hunting season is over I want to try different powders and see if I can get the 168 to group.

If you are shooting deer and not elk try a 162eldx. Mine has a 1:9 proof and doesn't like anything heavier. It will shoot this bullet nearly as well at 600 as it does at 100. Turning into a good lr deer bullet too.

lance that's getting it done! Have to be pleased with that. I'm right at 100 rounds on mine with dope verified to 800. Fingers crossed I get to use it on a big Montana mule deer next week.

I agree with lance on the twist. 1:8" twist all the way for the 28. I had a 1:9" on my 1st 28 and wasn't pleased with the results.

I used a Zermatt action for those asking. ADM brass and 215M primers on the load.
