28 Nosler 195 load data

1:9", while Berger states is "Minimum", it is not "Optimal", like they USED to print on the boxes, which is 1:8".

RL33, N570, Retumbo, and IMR8133 will all get you over 3000fps. Nosler brass, however, is notorious for having soft heads, and will show ejector marks early. ADG is much better, Peterson is good too, but I prefer ADG.

I would start at 79.0gr, and go up to 84.0ish, but make sure you stop when you hit pressure. Try them .020" off the lands.
He worded it perfectly!

Here is the load data from Berger for the 195 EOL

My 28 nosler does 3140 fps with n570. 78.0 grns, 29" barrel, 3.780 c.o.a.l. Shoots 1/4-1/2 moa evertime with that load out to 800 yds. That load is max in my rifle too. Any more powder gives me the shiny circle on the case head with nosler brass.

I shoot a 28 Nosler with 195 using RL-33 I've gone through a few barrels 500 in my experience is about all the barrel life I have gotten. One barrel was roughly 300 I get about 3050 with a 25" barrel right now but I'm a ways back from max. I tried shooting the 180 eldm but after about 100 round they all don't make it to the target. The bullets come apart! not all of them but about 2 out of 10. It was frustrating at first because I didn't understand where my bullets were going!! LOL. In my opinion I would not cut a turret for a 28 Nosler because it going to be disposable

☝️ I've witnessed a couple 1 in 9" 28s that shot the 195s great up close, but fell apart at distance. Most notably a Remington/krieger built by Jeraci. 3150 fps. Shot 0s and .1s at 100. 2" at 600. 4 feet at 800.

Went back to 180s and it held well under half out to 1k.

Model 70 classic action, 3.8" mag box
26" 1-8 Proof
82gr N-570
ADG Brass
215M
3075 FPS
This load shows no pressure in my rifle, but that may very well be the ADG brass. It holds in the .3's to 1100 yards.

If the 180s shoot well I'd stick with those. I think you might have some trouble with the 195s in the 1:9.

I'm totally jealous of you having 4lbs of N570, I wish I could find some. I do have 4lbs of Retumbo and 4lbs 8133 though.

Mine is a 26" 1:8 Proof. I made sure to get the 1:8 so I could shoot the 195s.

I have 2 28 Noslers 26" 1;8 brux and both have an OAL of 3.770. I load 195 with N570 at 82.5 grains and get 3120. I have gone up to 3225 but settled at 3125 since it was the most accurate. I would start IF you have a long throat at 79.0 and increase in .5. If you have a short throat then start at 75.0. You can easily get 3050 with a short throat and N570.

I had a sammi chambers before I designed my long throat and was using H1000 and getting the accuracy at 2950. But using N570 you can get 3000 for sure. I live in AZ and our temp swings are huge. I have not seen any change in speed like you will with RL33.

I run primarily N570 in my 28.
8 twist with 195's throated for 195. I run only ADG brass and have hit 3253 for velocity. I used Fed215m primers and gun shoots great there. But every gun is different and I advise starting low and working up. Bulls were taken one shot one kills. Gun was verified at a 600 and 1000 yd club for elevation and velocity. I had pressures at approximately 3060 with nosler brass. Don't shoot it much because of it being a barrel burner but it was built for one thing. I recently slowed it down to 3100.
