I have a Weatherby Mark V in .270 Weatherby Mag. # 2 26 inch Barrel. Purchased new in 1980. At that time I had it scoped with a Leupold 3.5X to 10 X Vari X 3 . Just wondering if any one out there has tried the the 150 Grn Nolser Accubond LR Bullets, and what you thought of them . I would think they would be a good Mule Deer Bullet out to about 500 yards in that rifle. I could easily switch out the scope and put one of my 4.5X to 14 X with 30mm main tube Vari X 3 on it . I killed a small Elk on my first Elk Hunt , in 1981 using the 150 grn . Grand Slams , which were popular back then. My load at that time was 67 Grains of H 4831 for 3100 fps according to the Hornady Load Manual Vol 2 . Any suggestions to bring me up to date ,are very welcome. Thanks Guys .

Make sure you have a 1-10" twist, I believe some of the older ones(Germans) had a 1-12" twist built for the 130 grainers and will probably not stabilize the 150's out farther. They shot just alright in my factory Accumark. Inside 500 yards I think a fast 130 is hard to beat for mule deer. Regular Accubonds (140) shoot awesome in mine. If 500 yards is the goal I wouldn't get hung up on an ultra high bc bullet, really doesn't matter much at that distance I've learned.

Wow there is a round that you never hear about, I sure love mine I can't help you with your heavy bullet question since I shoot 90s out of my 30" 11Twist, the load is 80gr of RL17 the FPS is in rail gun territory, I am just glad to see this obscure chambering get some recognition.

THANK YOU BADGER :SCOPE EYE and TRM. This Weatherby Mark V was made in Japan in 1980. I think it is a 10 twist . It shoots 130 Grn extremely well, at 100 yards. So good , that I was advised by a bench rest shooter to not shoot the rifle too much for fear of running the barrel. He said "you will never get another one to shoot like that. " That was 1981 , and that was the thinking back then. So since 1982 I have shot perhaps 200 rounds through this rifle. Now that I am 72 and retired, I d like to have some fun with it. The range I belong too has a 300 yard rifle range. I have three rifles in 270 Win, ( 308 ;30-06 and 300 Weath mag too ) and this rifle in 270 Weatherby Mag. This one was always a pleasure to shoot. It has take two Mule deer, one Antelope and One small elk. I don't want to erode the throat or burn out the barrel, but I think I can shoot another 200 rounds through this rifle. I will Try my old load ( H-4831 )with the new Accubond Long Range Bullet and see how it like that !!! Thanks again guys !!!! Lenny

As far as shooting out the barrel I think you can get a lot more shots than that out of it but when you do go to the range bring a couple of rigs with you and keep rotating them don't let it overheat and when it's resting open up the bolt and stand it up so it has the chimney effect It cools it down a lot faster that way.

I am watching this with a lot of interest. I believe a 270 Wea. with a 1-8 is a real sleeper for many reasons.
1. The round has been around awhile and established with many good factory loads available that fill the needs of all except a few of us "loonies". I look at that because I am 67 and would rather pass down guns that my kids/grandkids can buy ammo for. The jury is out in this regard in my opinion for the 270 Nosler.
2. The case cap. seems about right for a long range round of .277 cal, not quite the velocity of a Nos, but close.
3. Recoil will still be mild, a little more than a 6.5 RPM for example but decent.
4. Still a decent gap between a 270 Mag and a 300 Mag, I have to justify having both, haa, a little harder with a 7mm.
5. An opportunity to have something a little different but at the same time available.

I am still leaning toward a 6.5 PRC or RPM for my next round but this is a consideration.

My next project is a carbon 8 twist for my 270 Roy. I believe you are correct that it is a real sleeper. Weatherby shoulda just built the .264 Weatherby mag with an 8tw instead of the extremely overbored 6.5-300. Looks cool tho, lol.

For those that want top quaility brass, Peterson is making 7rem mag brass. U can make 270bee from that with just a little bit of work. One of the advantages of having that belt. That brass would be a far better option and most likely cheaper if you have time to do it.

Thank You all!!! I hope to make some loads before it gets to cold for me to enjoy shooting. I will look for Re Loader 26 ASAP. I would guess that powder is about as slow as H 4831. Maybe a Mule deer hunt in 2022. God Willing. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you!!!

Vv565 is a stable equivalent rl23 would be closer to 4831 and still a bit slower
