270-300 Win Mag now feasible

It was originally a Winchester Laredo 300WM, so it is a M70 Controlled Round Feed action. It has a 7STW magazine box and follower and the bolt stop has been shortened to feed 3.6" cartridges.

I had it re-barreled at Pac-Nor, 28" Super Match 1-8" twist 270-300WM(Sendero contour). The chamber was cut for .010 clearance with a 165 Matrix seated at 3.6".

Scope is a 4-20x50 Nitrex TR2(same as a Weaver Super Slam) EBX reticle, rings are Burris Signature ZEE with bushings and a 20MOA EGW picatinny rail.

The stock is a Fajen Classic Walnut with a Neidner butt plate and pistol grip cap. The barrel channel was bedded full length then the action was raised .010" on the pillars and the action was bedded including the first 3" of the barrel.

That is one well thought out rifle.

With my 270 Wby with a "stock" .378" freebore, I touch the lands at about 3.5" with the 165 Matrix. Any ideas what you will do when you/we run out of the 165 Matrix? My mag box is 3.7" and I touch the lands with the 170 Berger at 3.8". Have you tried to shoot the 170 Bergers yet?

I have the same length and barrel contour, but I am fluted and have a muzzle brake. H-S Precision bottom metal and mags...also with a 20 MOA rail...

Let us know how it shoots...

Great rig. Hope it shoots as good as it looks

With that wp degree base you'll get over a mile of adhustment at my hunting elevations! Nice to shoot a good bullet fast with a 270 isnt it!

This rifle shot pretty well with the Matrix and Bergers. Well under an inch at 100 yards. This is with the ultimate sniper stock from Choate. Hopefully it will shoot as well with the Fajen stock.

I have a limited supply of Matrix 165's, I wish I would have ordered more while they were available. Still, the amount I have should last years.

I have 400 of the Berger 170's, they also shoot well and at 3.6" are .083" off the lands. My very first load was sub moa, I just substituted Berger 170's for the Matrix 165's and shot them(resulting in a 3.615 oal and .068" jump). They were slightly hot but not unusable at 75g of Retumbo.

320 yards quartering towards me. I put it just infront of the right shoulder, the 140gr Cutting Edge exited between the third and fourth rib on the left side. About 15 yards later it was over.

Yes the 270-300 Win Mag is feasible. And awesome if i can say so myself.

Three animals this year. Three shots, all Cutting Edge 140grs at 3425 fps.

Nice Bull...congratulations...where were you hunting?

I am happy to report that after changing the stock and R&R'ing the scope the rifle shoots to the same point of impact and still shoots great.

Interestingly, the rifle shows a slight preference for Federal brass, with better groups and ES. 75g of Retumbo and the 165 Matrix had an ES of 30 over 5 shots with an average velocity of 3177fps. I may have to try a smaller bushing with the Winchester brass to increase the neck tension looking for better ES.

I also loaded a few Trophy Bonded Tip 150's and they shot very well at 3320fps and 77g Retumbo. These also feed nicely out of my magazine box at 3.5".

Small deer impact at 312 yards. The exit is on the right side of the photo. The sternum was split and most all of the ribs were fractured by the impact. The stomach was burst and blood shot was observed in the entire front half.
