.260 Rem Hunting Bullet Recommendation

If there is a hunting bullet that works as well beyond 400 as it does inside 400, I'm all ears.

139 Scenars are a peach....if you can get past the notion that it's a "target" bullet only. Consistent, decent BCs, and more robust than Bergers, AMaxes, ELDMs etc. and I've run all those on game too.....

We have had no requests for a refund. We have exchanged a few boxes of bullets when a customer mistakenly ordered bullets that needed more twist than the rifle being used. To my knowledge there has not been a poor terminal performance to date. I dread the day it happens.

I agree with using a bullet on the lighter side and using velocity to your advantage at the range you mentioned. I have had 100% success with Berger 130 hunting VLD's on deer and cow elk with 6.5 creedmoor out to 440 yards.

With that said, I'm really wanting to try the Hammer bullet's.

Just bought some RL-26. I plan to begin checking it out with the .243AI and .260AI. I'll likely switch the Cooper, too, once I finish up my last pound of IMR 4350.

If you want some data on Reloder 26 and a .260 AI, You can p.m. me. I am shooting 147 ELD-M's at 3050 and have gone up to 3150ish with the 140 VLD's, however I shot the 140's at 3070, as that was the best node. It really is THE powder for top end performance in a .260 AI. I am currently working up loads with HBN coated 147's, tempted to try 150 SMK's while waiting on the 156 EOL.

Berger 140 Elite Hunter or 155 Elite Hunter.

Definitely a diff type of bullet. You should be able to be fully load developed inside of 20 rounds and you will never have to cull any or sort them for any reason. As well as never need to make sure the hollow point is open. There is no lot to lot variation so there will never be a need to redevelop your load when you buy your next batch.

I am guessing that your 260 has a 9" twist? If so I would run the 117g Sledge Hammer at an expected vel about 3050fps. With an 8" twist if I were setting it up for myself I would choose the 110g Hammer Hunter. You should expect close to 3200fps out of it and I would not hesitate to use it on elk out to your range of 400y. They will handle shoulders if necessary. At 3000' elevation with a 300y zero you only have 8.5" of drop at 400y. This bullet would still be traveling at over 2400fps at 400y. Good medicine!

What powder and charge weight range would it take to get the 110 Hammer to near 3200?? I am 22" 8 twist.....
