.25 cal 131g .330G7 bullet from Blackjack Bullets for you to drool on ...

You want to know the coolest thing? I didn't even have to reset my seating die. This is the EXACT setting I use for running Berger 115 VLD's. So, literally, if I were to setup my reamer, as I have described in my post earlier, I wouldn't have to change anything on my reloading dies, and when swapping back and forth between the 2 bullets, it would require no alterations other than powder charge. :D

That's awesome. As you guys will see with our 257 Blackjack cartridge in the next year or so, there's a few coincidences that make the cartridge a win-win-win. : )

25x284 looks very interesting too. Looking forward to details on that.
Barrelnut. I have a 25-284 reamer on order from PTG. It's supposed to be here in about a week. It's a no turn neck .145 freebore. I ordered a 7.5 twist Krieger sendero contour and will have it finished at 28 inches. I ordered 500 blackjack bullets. My action is currently at scorehighgunsmithing getting ready to be blueprinted. It's supposed to be back in 2 weeks. Then all my components are off to my buddy's shop and he will be chambering my barrel. I'll keep you posted. Thinking I should be able to run them around 3000-3100fps.

Here's my reamer specs if anyone is thinking of doing a 25-284.

How did you determine a .145" freebore? Are you necking down 6.5x284 brass? Do you recall the outside diameter of the neck to make it a no-turn neck?

I believe you may be slow in your estimation of the velocity that you are able to get with the 131 Blackjack. I am getting almost 3200fps with my 140 Bergers and almost 3100fps with my 150 Sierras in my 6.5x284 with a 28" carbon Proof Research barrel...

TIA

I have to admit that I'm a little intrigued by these even though I'm not a big .257 fan. I will give BlackJack Bullets a ton of credit for going all in and supplying bullets, barrels and reamer options all in one spot to really backup the product.

I haven't decided what I'll do with it, but I ordered up a 1-7" twist X-Caliber blank today. For $199 I'm sure I can find a use for it eventually. I've got a couple other projects to finish up before getting to a 25 caliber but I'll come up with something interesting to do with it.

I saw that, but was a bit hesitant, as I have read some less-than-stellar stories about X-Caliber barrels having accuracy and Q&A issues. I hope that was all in their past, or just internet BS (kind of like all the Remington bitching). But for $199, it's hard not to see what they're all about. Next paycheck I might have to order me one, but would prefer a 5R Sendero fluted Bartlein to keep my rifle's Sendero SF "clone" look going...But that would be a $500 blank (plus paying my gunsmith), which is way outside of the paygrade right now. Maybe if I get a raise soon...

Are the X-Caliber barrels 5R-rifled? I'm almost positive they're button-rifled, which is not a problem, as button-rifling has come a long way the last few decades. Same with CHF technology.

They have a Lilja Sendero 1:7 twist in stock for $300, but it's got 3G rifling. Never used one of those, but have heard great things. Might just jump for one of Dan's cut-rifled barrels for the extra $100 bill.

A good buddy of mine is on his 3rd X-Caliber barrel for his PRS match rifle. They've all shot extremely well, but they copper foul more than a premium barrel. I ordered a 1-7" .277 blank a few months back for a project and sold the blank after I looked down the bore. The interior finish looked like a Savage factory barrel, which doesn't necessarily mean that it won't shoot well. The most accurate gun I've ever shot or owned was a factory Savage 22-250 that would shoot mid .2 aggregates in competition, but that barrel looked like the rifling was gnawed in by an angry beaver!

I have Dave Kiff some dimensions of the bullet. He cane up with the freebore length and I told him I want to have a no turn neck rifle. He said no problem and sent me the reamer print.

What powder(s) was used in the 25 Creed testing?

What about for 25-284 testing?

Thanks!

We used H4350 in the 25x47 up to 2950 and 25 Creedmoor upwards of 3000 fps, both 26" barrels. We will test Varget next and then move on to 25 WSSM, 25 SST, and othersl ike 257 WBY and 25-06. In 25x284 we tested H4831SC to 2802 fps in 28" since we knew it to be so reliable from that case. The 131 ACE's are LASERS at 3140-3200 fps lol.

Miles, in the .25-06 AI and .257 Wby, give it a try with IMR 7828 SSC, 7977, and H1000.

The long action cartridges seem to like the slower magnum powders better, because it gives a more full case fill, for a more positive and even ignition.

I've always had great luck with 7828 but with these lighter bullets I'm thinking H1000 in the WBY. I haven't reloaded 257 WBY in a few years so I'll be going back to the books and doing some comparative research. Have not tried 7977 in anything yet.
