25-06 AI

Cmon Buddy." Burn out lands after a few hundred rounds". Really??? Did you actually need to re barrel yours after just a few hundred rounds. ??? If that's correct I would be really angry at Weatherby, and I would expect a new barrel from them. Thats why I suggested he google the caliber if he would Really like to know the Good and Bad, from numerous Shooters who own one and shoot one !! This way he could make an informed, intelligent decision, ( YES or NO ) based on real world experience. That's a good thing, I think.
OH...So evertthing we read on the internet can be taken as Gospel??😁

AI velocity gain is about case capacity gain from the parent case. The 06 cases don't gain much from the AI treatment. If you get 4% case capacity increase, you get about 2% velocity gain potential.

You might be able to burn out a barrel in less than 500 rounds if you shot them continually. It definitely would damage the throat and leade. Heat buildup wouldn't do the rifling any good either. Just my opinion.

I got my 25-06 in the early '70s, a Remington 700 BDL. It was a decent shooter then, but I wanted a long-range varmint rifle. I had my gin smith re-barrel it with a Douglas supreme barrel, 26" no taper. I got a Fajen thumb hole stock at my local gun show, and he bedded it and floated the barrel. In those days, 25-06 brass was scarce, so I necked a bunch of LC 30-06 brass I got at the show down using RCBS dies. That rifle shoot lights out. On a good day (when I do my part), it will put five under a dime at 100 yards. Do I need a few more FPS? not really.

.257 will get more popular if H brings and promotes a 25 CM and/or 25 Public Relations Cartridge.
of course the factory loads will be stoked with high BC Target bullets at likely unrealistic speeds that the overwhelming majority will shoot into animals at Round Nose distance.

I like the 25 bullets and have a 250, 257 and two 25-06's. I've been thinking about a 257 BE. I like AI cartridges and have a few. Maybe running a reamer into one of my 25-06's would satisfy my itch for something new. I don't give a hoot for faster twist barrels. The factory twist on my 700's work fine for the heaviest and longest bullets I would use. Fast twist is an answer to a question that I've never asked and never will.

I'd expect to get ~ 100 FPS more with the heavier bullets - at the same pressure. I'm not sure that the difference that would make on bullet drop, windage, and affect on the game animals would make it worthwhile.
The big thing for me would be case life and case stretching differences.
I don't have it yet but Randy Selby, the gunsmith building a 25-06ai for me is telling me that with a 26 inch barrel, I'll land around 3,250-3,300 with a 120 partition. That's really 257 Weatherby territory. I do think the AI combined with a longer tube takes things a step up from the regular 25-06.

I can't verify any of this is true yet, as I don't have the rifle but I shave no reason to doubt it.
