2024 Hunting Picture Thread?

I've not harvested anything yet this year. Not sure if I will.

I'm at the point where it is more important for me to let my son and daughter harvest a buck then for me to get one. I've killed plenty of deer and it is time to let the youngsters build their love of the outdoors.

No booners this year, but I've spent the last couple years teaching my sister how to hunt. She's gotten into the whole, "natural food" kick and killing your own meat is a great way to get your protein.

Congrats on your harvest! I was looking to baptize a new rifle myself this year but didn't get a draw on the Elk Hunt as I was hoping so I decided to take a crack at nice white tail buck. Opening day in Ky I stood beneath a cedar tree waiting for the sun to come up when I spotted a monster buck present himself in the most perfect setup not 25 yards from where I stood. As he stood there ushering two good size doe along I set the crosshairs of my scope on his silhouette and debated taking the shot. It was still early and the darkness was just beginning to give way to the first light of the dawn. Why I let him walk I may never fully understand but he got a pass and I didn't fret about it. Couple days later in the afternoon I had been standing in the same spot for about an hour seeing only a few small yearling doe and I let myself get distracted when I caught movement over my shoulder just a few feet from me. It was the same buck strolling along having just crossed behind me as I was looking the wrong way and out of position. 2nd pass. Few days later I'm getting worried about putting meat in the freezer as the rut seems to be breaking and the weather is warming up. Saw some antlers coming thru the woods but it wasn't the big monster I had seen earlier... But still a decent 8 pt and decided to take it as I only had a couple days left and wanted something to put in the freezer.

CenTex WT taken in Dripping Springs. Banish 30 Gold suppressed 308 700, Fluted Wilson 10T, Crimson Trace scope I picked up here. 155TMK at 235 yards - bang flop. Boiler room shot, no exit wound, had to look hard for the 30cal hole. Inside was a bucket full of blood.

Next outing will see the use of suppressed 223 bolt gun launching 77 TMKs at the same distance. 77 TMKs out of 26 inch HH barrel are coming out at 2914 average across 20 shots in testing. Calculated terminal velocity is sufficient.

We got to the shooting hide at 0700, this guy was on the ground at 0707. 77 TMK at 235 yards - bang-flop. The remnant of the 77 lodged on the skin on the other side. See picture with hole.

During the plandemic I chambered a 6.5G. Zeroed the scope haven't shot it since. Could you please give me more detail on the 85 HH - muzzle velocity, precision wise, and terminal performance on the deer?

60 years old this year, and this was my first successful Elk Hunt! My son-in-law and I hunted down in SW Colorado. This bull walked out of the timber at 110yds. Howa 1500 .300wm. Not long range by most standards on here, but that's where he was. Hit him high behind the left shoulder. He started trotting off and as I racked another round, he tumbled over right in the middle of that open meadow in the pictures. A couple of hunters had passed us on their quads as we were hiking in that morning. They stopped to visit; asked us where we intended to hunt. They steered us to this spot where they'd seen sign. Later, when they heard the shot, they came back where we were quartering him out. They offered to take the quarters on their quads back to our truck and I packed out the head. They wouldn't accept any meat, but we went to town and got them a bottle of good sippin' whiskey. If I never shoot another, it was an awesome hunt!

Finally baptized the Henry .357 yesterday. While I was in the stand 5miles away, wife put another one down behind the house with my trusty old 30-30.
