.22 Creedmoor, anyone?

My update... shooting the 77 TMK over RL16 at 3505 FPS. 41.8 grains, BR-2, lapua brass.

Shot two coyotes yesterday, one we called in and my buddy shot it with his 204. It laid for a minute but started to get up to run and stopped at about 60 yards. I put one right in his chest and he dropped hard. I was worried I ruined the fur but there was no exit at all.

Other one I hit on a dead run at about 250.... right behind the shoulder, again no exit. Pretty pleased with the performance so far on coyotes.

They, my action, barrel, reamer, and brass, are lying quietly in their boxes.

I waited over 6 months for the stock, it came with the wrong inlet. I sent it back and waited another 6 months. It came with the wrong inlet again. I sent it back a second time and after waiting a few months and not receiving it back, I asked for a refund. It is now a project for a later date.

I have 2 loads I use for my 22 Creedmoor.
75 gr. Hornady ELD Match-----RL26 44.5 grs. .500 groups CCI BR
80 gr. Nosler CC------H-4350 41.0 grs. CCI BR
In my rifle these loads are entirely safe. The Nosler is my best load.

I run my 22 creed at 3500 with 80's without issue. I could only ever get my 22-243AI shooting well up to 3550, so the 22 creed is a no brainer for me.

I know that this is an old thread but I am going to have a 22 Creedmoor built and will be using a Bartlein 7 twist barrel with the 95 grain matchkings. I have read a lot about bullets blowing up with the 7 twist barrels. Has anyone seen or had problems with the 7 twist barrels?

Yes .... and you don't need a 7 twist .... shot a ton out of my 8 twist with no problems .. i think the sweet spot for the 22cr is the 80.5 gr stuff personally

Thanks for the input. I went ahead and ordered a Brux rem. varmint barrel with a 8 twist. I will just not open the 7 twist when it gets here and return it. Im guessing the 8 twist will give me a wider ranger of bullets to work with anyways without blowing bullets up midflight.

starting my build and have decided on this caliber. I believe it will gain a true following like it's big brothers. Dies, brass are coming out now, powders and GREAT bullets are already here.

To those who OWN and SHOOT this round. What barrel length and twist do you recommend? I will run a suppressor and "may" shoot the 90gr bullets but this is not a MUST.

Gun will be used for prairie dogs and plinking long range steel. Probably pop a hog or 10.

Ive ran hand loaded 88 elds as well as copper creek ammo with 88 elds. Both shoot great. The 22 creedmoor is the funnest shooting long range cartridge Ive shot. The copper creek 88 elds run 3250 fps in a 26" with alpha brass. The alpha munitions brass is a fine product. I used a 7 twist in both rifles and Im shooting the 88 elds to 3350fps with RL26 in a 26". It is highly recommended to get a barrel with 5 or more grooves with 5R probably being the most dsesired. Im running a 6 groove. This will help prevent mid air bullet blow up in the 7 twist if you are approaching muzzle velocities of 3200 and above while shooting match grade bullets with thinner jackets.

Copper creek 22 creedmoor ammuntion 88 eld with Alpha munitions brass 3250fps. Three shots @ 100yds. Roughly 1/4 moa. This should be enough to take white tail out to around 600 yds.

I got the 88 elds to 3260 fps in a 26" with h4350 & alpha brass. This was near the upper end of velocity with h4350 before pressuring out too much.

What caused all the misc tearing on your target? Did you have one of the three blow up on the way downrange? It's not an uncommon problem with the 88s in a 22 Creed.

The paper target was hung in front of a steel drum and was suspended over the drum instead of flat against it. This had happened before with other cartridges when I shoot at a paper targets hung like that on the drum. Its a make shift 100yd target for me that I only occasionally use because I hardly ever shoot at 100yds any more. I usually shoot at 300, 400 & 500 yds at home. I have shot out to 500 with both 22 creedmoors and It has made it to the steel target everytime. Ive heard reports of SMK & ELDs blowing up in a 7 twist 22 creedmoor & 22-250 AI when pushed up to & beyond 3200 fps but it was all 4 groove or 3 groove barrels. Although there may be folks who have had blow ups from a 5R 7 twist, I haven't heard of any and shouldn't be any unless the barrel is toast or flawed.

I must have a slow barrel I could only get 90gr Bergers to 3214fps with RL26. Settled on a load of rl23 at 3173fps it had a es of 6. 77gr serria smk at 3233fps shot really good as well. 26" barrel 1&7twist

Still nice speeds you have. I just wonder if your barrel is slow of if my Chambers may have more freebore. I think I have around .080 to .090 freebore.
