Measuring the jacket thickness as best I could it is roughly .010-.012" thicker at the tip than it is down where it ruptures.
I like the idea of those serrations, these bullets are much tougher than I was expecting them to be.
If I could get a wound channel like that bear at longer distance I would be quite happy.

I think the serrations may just get it done, it really looks like if the nose will start to open then it will unleash utter carnage from there back! The hits and damage are abundantly clear even with the bullet not opening nose first, the second jug is ruptured from top to bottom and top blows of so it would ruin somethings will to live even as is I think.
I kind of wonder though if these will react like the 215 Berger did where the nose was blowing of in water but in game it's like they swallowed a grenade?
 
Hopefully we will see soon. I spoke with Marshal last week and he didn't have the jackets yet as customs take their sweet time. I think he will turn them around pretty quick when he gets them though. I don't don't have an SS yet to shoot any anyway!:rolleyes:

It is thicker at the tip than at the lead junction??......Rich
 
The jackets fold in on themselves increasing thickness in the tip/ogive it's an accordion effect that occurs in all jacketed bullets, that's where lube lines come from.
You guys may want to try annealing the tips, it appears to work very well, and would be a more cost effective way of getting the desired results.
The serrated jackets still haven't shown up but once they do I'll whip up a batch & send em back for your pleasures

Hi Marshal......Do you know what the tip thickness is after you draw down the .308's to .264"?. Annealing definitely softens them up. I quit bonding some of my bullets for that reason when I didn't want them softer.....Rich

The thickness doesn't change much if any, the length is gained from reducing the base, but since I don't have any on hand right now I cant give a 100% honest answer.
I kinda think that since the lead is down .300+- annealing would be an easy way to go.... maybe:rolleyes:

I forgot about the Corbin jackets being a straight wall (.015") for about 3/8" before they taper sharply to .026". Most jackets taper immediately so that would explain being thinner further down the ogive (because of what Marshal explained).......Rich
 
I got the bullets from Marshal that I serrated and I am afraid this is not a viable option as far too many collapse (fold) during the point forming process. Marshal has been extremely cooperative and helpful which I greatly appreciate. At this point, I would agree with the annealing procedure. As a bullet maker myself, I can tell you that Marshal makes a good bullet, especially at the price! Any additional steps, such as tipping, trimming jacket length, bonding, etc., will greatly add to the cost. One other thing you might try is drilling out the tips with an approx. .030" bit if you want a little more expansion........Rich
 
I decided to run a quick test on the 160's today. I only fired two rounds thru my plastic barrel filled with H20, but the results looked promising. They expanded at least 200'/sec. lower than the 215 hybrids. With a very small test, it appears in this media that expansion takes place between 1700-1800'. I found a couple pieces of lead with the 1811' but lost them in the shuffle

That is a bit lower impact velocity than I have tried.
I shot some annealed ones that had 18" of penetration as compared to 24" without at 1900fps with the bullet shedding a bit of the jacket , the rear half weighing 80gr.
