15x power binos

Austin when you are comparing all these optics are you making sure they are set for your eyes. As I stated earlier I think a pair of glasses to correct your astigmatism would br your best bet for now. Then after your Laisik surgery see if you still want or need higher power bino's. To me the higher magnification combined with your astigmatism may be more trouble than help.

Thanks I appreciate the advice I'm starting to lean towards a higher end 12x50.

RogerPA, Well said above. I have been guiding Elk hunters for close to 30 yrs and I use Swarovrski, Leica or Zeiss every day of the season . There is nothing that can compare to these 3 brands PERIOD. I will say that Swarovski has the best customer service of the 3. Some people don't need or want the best optics and that is fine. But don't ******** me that these cheaper brands are as good and once you use the best, it is tough to go back to cheaper. The same is true with chainsaws Stihl or Husky.
Well I wouldn't argue with you over those you mention being very good optics, because certainly they all are. But I will question you as to having lined up numerous ones on the same day all looking at the same things. Very few ever get to do that, and if you do, you find out just how small the differences are between them. I paid $500 for my 15x58 Minox on a closeout at Cameraland when they changed over to the new 15x56 model.
I have pictures of the test we conducted in the yard of our PA camp where we can glass any distance we like to beyond 3000 yds. My friend/neibor who owns the Swaros felt his glass had a slight edge over the others. But he was quick to add, if I had used those Minox before I bought mine, thats what I would be using because theres no way to justify the huge cost difference. He has recently bought a set of the new
Nikons also just to have and evaluate, and I think he paid about $600 for them. I'll tell you what else I can show you. I have numerous sets of spotters in brackets, including a small 40 year old set of 50 mm Bushnells. I will sit those next to your Swaros and make your sweat roll, and I might have $400 in them. If 15x isn't enough power, I can screw different eyepieces in them in a minit or so, and I can also realign them on the spot if they get knocked over. Whereas with any factory glass your glassing would be over till next season.

Yobuck, I own Binoculars , scopes ,and spotting scopes in all 3 major brands so I can compare them side by side any day I want too. I make a living using optics so I do like good stuff. Yes I have compared the Minox and Swaro 15x side by side in daylight and dusk. The Minox aren't even close. You guys tell yourself whatever you want, but you get what you pay for. I do most of my work early morning and late evening and that is when the big 3 shine. So you tell yourself whatever you want, but I don't agree with your findings.

yobuck,
I loaned my Minox 13X56 to a friend who owns a Swarovski 10X42 or maybe a 40. He got to compared them side by side. He said if he had known about these Minox he would not have spent the $800 more for his Swaros.

Well I'm taking pics standing in the plot not from stand and as stated I have shooting lanes. I have meostar 3-12x56 Leica er5 3-15x56 meopro 4.5-14x50 and meopro 6.5-20x50, but I like binos and I'm telling you at early morning, late evening the 10x doesnt givr me the clarity to judge characteristics at 200yds. A 7x would be terrible for spots listed trying to view racks at even 150yards
Magnification doesn't give you clarity, that is a function of resolution and fine focus.

It might be cheaper and better to get your eyes fixed. If you can't tell antler characteristics from 250 yds out even in low light conditions with 10 power binos, you have some eye problems. And staying at the cheaper end of binos isn't going to help that cause no matter what zoom you go to.
Or simply need to properly set the bino focus for his eyes. They come preset for people with 2020 vision.

I wear contacts but have stigmatism in both eyes which makes it tough. Hope to have surgery soon, but like I said I feel a 15x would help in the vortex price range if not let me know. And yes you can find 15x vortex used any day of the week. But if I need better glass than that I'd like to know
It will be a waste of money and won't help you with your problem.

You guys talk about comparing binoculars side by side. They all look good middle of the day in sunshine. I compare glasses right before dark and your Minox won't beat the good Optics then even with a bigger objective lens. No Guides I know run Minox.

This is totally false. I have proven many times a good 15X will last minutes longer than a good 10X in low light.
That isn't even possible. The higher the magnification the more light is required to resolve an image.

You would have to be comparing vastly superior glass or larger objectives to get such a result.

I find that very false for my eyes, and maybe that is due to my astigmatism, but if I'm hunting late, and need to shoot or verify and animal I'm not on 3x for a 100yd shot, I would shoot with at least 10x power late.
No offence but the physics just doesn't work that way with optics.

You may need a larger image to pick out your ideal spot but you cannot get a clearer or brighter image by turning up the power in low light. It simply isn't possible.

I use small deer antlers 131 yards away to check for low light performance as darkness sets in. Good stuff it good even in low light. My Minox 15X58 is very good even in low light.
