Suppressed Magnums

Hunting and range I'm 100 percent supressed, magnum brakes make me flinch and anticipate. I run 13 baffle custom Rex silentlum 30 cal suppressors on 3006, 300wm, 300 prc hot, 200gr+ loads. If I started prs I bet I would go 6 cal, braked, 3 ear devices and some lessons
This 100 percent opposite of my opinion. I can't stand supressors. The anticipation is horrible because so is the recoil reduction. But we all are different.

Easy fix, quit shooting g big magnums!! They are a huge bang for not much more in return in real hunting. If your goal is killing elk at 1k plus then big mags have there place.

Suppressed has been a game changer for me, love them. I've owned them all and the biggest I have now is a 7SAUM. It's easy to shoot suppressed. I do t think I could have shot my d 338rum suppressed that would have been brutal on my shoulder

I don't get this. So run a can AND a brake. I use the Griffin taper mount system so, given I always shoot my rifles with brakes, there is zero disadvantage to having a brake on every rifle. So I run brakes on everything from 20cal to 338cal. It's the best of both worlds. There is no reason to run a direct thread can without a brake.

I'm not running a direct thread hahaa. Supressors are garbage at recoil reduction. Which is why they sit collecting dust
I'm not sure what ya don't get? Supressors are not brakes, brakes do not supress. I prefer brakes and dislike Supressors. 😉
Also, I agree there hs zero disadvantage of having a brake on every rifle hahaa. That's why all mine have them....

The disadvantage to a brake is the concussive blast into your face and the greatly increased sound that on a centerline rifle plus brake even plugs plus muffs cannot make hearing safe.
And then the very mild concussions if you shoot a braked magnum all day.
You want to talk about anticipation, I'd argue brakes are much worse. Just sitting there waiting to get punched in the face.

To each their own but we've have wildly different experiences.

Brakes inside a can do nothing at all for recoil.

Nobody I know experiences any of this cuncussive whatever some guys claim. It's simply a non issue and never has been. For decades...I've never once had a single issue...nobody I know ever has. I've had baselines taken, ear pro works. It works extremely well. This is not an opinion. So with all due respect it really isn't as dramatic as what some claim. I find most that complain about brakes are just people who are upset that you do not associate the same as them. I do not like them, they do nothing beneficial for me. I'm glad there are people who are sensitive to loud noises and use a supressor. But it's not a factor to a GIANT population of us.

Please list all caliber and chamberings you have fired with a brake. ;)

I got headaches every time I used a certain kind of brake on a 24' barrel. 7 PRC.
Neither the brake nor the "short" barrel are on active duty these days.

Anybody that denies that brakes increase hearing damage is probably going to pay the price later. Nuff said....

I suspect that most of us here on LRH have at least some hearing damage from muzzle blast. I know that I have a lot of it and at my range when people show up with a rifle with a brake other people either complain or find somewhere else to shoot.

Here is one of many resources that back up what I am saying.

Tinnitus is no joke and even my hearing aids offer only moderate help in understanding what others say, especially the mumblers.

While a suppressor's felt recoil reduction is not as effective as the muzzle brake, the amount of recoil is not garbage. I have 3 direct thread suppressors, and the recoil of felt recoil is still substantial compared to no muzzle device.

Compared to a brake the recoil reduction is garbage IMO. It's an obvious distinction which works better.

Gotta love how guys like to twist the narrative. Read the last sentence is the link! Nobody is denying firearms aid in hearing loss. Bottom line, WEAR EAR PRO.

That's a bummer Phil. I love shooting my short barrel magnums with brakes. It's a joy for us. Nothing like spotting your hits.
