How do you handle dogs on your property?

Depends if single event or continuous. Do you know who owns the dog(s)? Photo to owner to request restraint is reasonable. Dog in photo doesn't seem to have a collar. Maybe got out of a kennel? Pulled out of collar while on a cable?

If continuous, contact local animal control with photos. If animal is aggressive, document as much as possible with video. Documentation is to defend actions.

"Complaints to owners seldom solve problems and preclude discretely handling it yourself." - quote of someone who has lost way too many domestic rabbits and chickens...

If simply trespassing, perhaps talking with the owner will help. Maybe.

I generally contact the owner if possible. If they are harrassing livestock then that can be handled differently. although that's not my favorite way to handle it. If you have a Taser that will pretty much keep them from coming back. I'm considering learning how to load some 12ga shells with salt pepper.

I am concerned with the dog's effect on the resident deer population if any. What do you think? They, there are two on the farm across the dirt road from my property, bark when I am trying to sneak in, in the dark AM. I have one ground blind near the road and my driveway that they both came up to the blind while my son and grandson were hunting.😡

I have a sling shot that is pretty convincing and that was my first instinct.
Yeah having them bark at you won't help deer hunting. It depends if you want them to be friendly with you, or if you want them to stay away. It can be a touchy thing when you're out in the country with neighbors. If the dogs pose no threat then you may want to tread lightly if you want a good relationship with your neighbor. If that's not a concern then I check the local laws before making a decision. I have a friend who wants me to go out to their cattle ranch to thin out the coyotes. But they also have a neighbor who lets their dogs roam on their ranch. Those dogs have harassed their livestock so they went away. I love dogs but I said I wouldn't let them harass the livestock which is legal in my state.

Many moons ago we had a neighbor from down south that decided they needed a pack of German shepherds. No fault of the breed but out in the country the pack mentality took all but two seconds to kick in and we started having problems. We lost a calf and my teenage self whacked one in our yard. It caused such a stink in the rural neighborhood that my parents decided we needed to find another way. We found that if we lightly froze paintballs they wouldn't break or deform and you could run much faster fps.

Didn't take very many times hitting them with frozen paintballs to get them to stop coming around.
