300 blackout deer hunting

This is the result I'd expected to hear from someone that has actually used the SubX on game. Thanks... I just worry about bullets that open up to a huge "flower" in ballistic gel. Deer hides can be pretty tough and they have bones all over the place.

I have been using 300Whisper rounds for over 20 years and although I haven't killed a lot of game with them I HAVE noticed that the very heavy bullets moving along at 1000fps give or take a little tend to thump game pretty hard and they don't always die right where you hit them but they usually don't go far. They were somewhat similar to shooting hardcast ammo out of a handgun

Certainly the SubX will constantly be improved but the type of terminal performance that I've seen reported by people that shoot game with them is what I'm looking for. I was stuck with bullets in the "old days" that weren't optimal for subsonic velocities as far as terminal performance goes.

Obviously you lose the massive hydraulic shock you get with supersonic bullets traveling over 2400fps so bullet placement is more important with subsonic rounds and getting a complete passthrough is going to be difficult with rounds that have giant mushrooms with petals way out there like a starfish e.g. Maker bullets.

Did you experience complete passthroughs T3ninja?

Yes, all but one were pass through. If I had to put a number on it, I'd say it would be close to 20-25 animals.

My boys and I are hoping to add some deer to the subsonic list this fall. May try 308 win in a bolt gun. We also have an AR that is waiting. I would like to come up with a bolt gun in 300 blkout, the AR is still noisy with subs. Thought about trying to block off gas port and run it single shot. Gonna be fun no matter what.

If your twist is fast enough in your .308, You can use it with the 190's I built a .308 this past fall with a 16" carbon barrel with a 1/7 twist. It shoots excellent. That's what I'll be using this fall.

The 308 is a 1:10 twist. I was thinking that was supposedly fast enough for the 190 Sub X.
Our Wilson combat barrel in our 300 blk is either a 7 or 8 twist.
I have a 223 savage bolt gun that really needs a 300 blk fast twist barrel put on it. ;)

I've killed hundreds of deer add hogs with the 300blk. First the subs suck n comparison to hypersonic rounds. They ar won't even in the same league. As for the two best. 100gr cutting edge raptors. Or the hammer 100gr 300blk. Both are far superior to even the Barnes.
If subs are the main goal then other are correct the sub x work but I do t have full faith in using them.

I plan on shooting my deer out of my archery blind this season, who here has experience shooting 190 sub-x at 20 yds? Is there a diffetent round i should look for or will this suffice?
I found the sub-x to be disappointing. Expansion was mediocre, barely above a fmj. I had far better results with the Makers 200gr REX. It works like a broadhead but causes a bit more damage. I have also used the 135 grain Speer TNT and the 110 Vmax. All worked great.

I'm using a Ruger Ranch 300bo. The SubX shoot under an inch at 50 yards which I'm happy with but everyone kept talking about the flowering copper bullets. So I ordered some underwood ammo loaded with the max expansion bullet I believe it's called. I was so excited to try these until I shot them. They shoot absolutely horrible in this rifle. I'm talking like 6" groups at 50 yards. Some of my buddies have used them and said they shoot great in their rifles. I'm not sure what's up yet

I had the same results. Both of these projectiles were shot at 200 yards through two 5 gallon buckets of water. The sub-x was recovered in the second bucket. The maker came out of the second bucket and went into the dirt 4 inches.

Prolly good for vermin…. I was going to get a .22lr suppressor for some pests around here but maybe the SubX would do…. Better to have both I think!!!
