22 Creedmoor fur friendly load

Hi All,

I'm new here with a new 22 creed and recently dusted off my reloading gear. I was perplexed to find very little published load data but have been working up some loads on the 62 grain ELD-VTs.
I was disappointed to read that this bullet does some serious fur damage to coyotes. I am a furrier so fur integrity is important.

What has the experiences been with best fur friendly loads for the 22 Creedmoor? And could I beg any of this load data from you all? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'm having a hard time working up a load as well due to there being minimal load data and I'm also at 1900ft elevation. I tried the load data off Peterson Cartridge website with H4350 and my velocity was way too low with their suggested max load. So I'm gonna do 0.5gr jumps and watch for pressure signs as I chase velocity with 62gr ELD-VT and 75gr ELD-M. I will say that 22 creedmoor with never be fur friendly at less than 300 yards. Unless you shoot FMJ's and just poke holes in them. If your goal is fur friendly shoot a .223 or 22-250, way cheaper and easier on furs.

I'm shooting a Remington 700 L/H, blue printed action, custom 23" barrel with 1:8 twist.
 
Pretty sure anything thats made to expand moving @3600+ fps will not be fur friendly unless you reduce load to point of possible squib 😉 probably be best like previously recommended running 75-77gr fmj for clean pass through. It will still most assuredly die from energy dump on internals from full power loads.
 
It's a 250 savage improved necked to .22. Or a .22-250 improved. I don't care about hides anymore but when I did I'd run 53 grain Hornady match out of the Swift at 4000 or so. Hardly ever got exit wounds and most of them were pinholes from the jacket or maybe bone. Farthest shot was probably under 300 yards. I do have a few boxes from the 70's left and several new ones that I was going to try side by side but I hardly use her anymore and when I do I have about 1000 55 V Maxes loaded already. The original Hornady 55 w/c, in limited testing, acted like a good big game bullet on coyotes and such. Try a light frangible bullet pushed hard.

I have 3 of those 22 CMs. And 2 of them shoots the same load data but 1 is totally deferant some people are useing copper bullets me I use 80.5 Berger for hunting with 42 gas. H4350 powder around 20 to 35k off the lance running around 3460 in a 23" barrel .i would call patriot valley arms and talk to josh the owner he can get you what you need he's up on these 22 CMS ,484-696-7874 AND GOOD LUCK ON YOUR HUNTING .
 
I shoot a good amount of coyotes (136 so far this year). I use the 75gr ELDM's in my 22 CM and have to say they work very well. They hit hard and usually put the dawg right down. Shot placement is obviously very key. I feel like "fur friendly" shots are based on where/how/if the bullet exits. I shot one at 522 yards and it dropped in its tracks. No exit wound and the cavity was completely jelly. A couple mornings later I shot one at 450 and that round dumped the entire gut sack out of the body. I feel the angle of the dawg when hit combined with what the bullet hit (going in or exiting) had/has a lot to do with the results. Dawgs shot at closer distances sometimes have acceptable exit holes and sometimes not.

A lot of ground fog but you can see what happens.

Flintlock shooter, what scope are you using?
My 22 CM is very hard on pelts until I am over 400 yds away.
