Personal Preference is all that matters. If it fits your needs, that's what counts

Other than the RUM and possibly the Norma what other cartridges would you be referring to?

30-378, 300 RUM, 300NM. Jeffries makes one possibly two but the above 3 are more common.

It's not about which is the most powerful 308 cartridge. For me it's what fits my needs. I prefer the 300PRC design over the 30N design. For the little difference in performance, that's all there has to be for preference. Improve it and your right at or above the 30N performance. Lapua 300PRC brass gives it another plus.

30 Nosler does have Peterson brass, so it's not handicapped by lack of good brass.

Yep I'm aware they do. Heard good things but no need to leave what I've found to be excellent available brass. I have 3 boxes of the PRC Lapua brass now. Good that I have a bunch of choices tho

What I don't understand about the 30N is why did they slightly shorten the case on it? Both the 26 & 28N case length is a bit longer.

That's why it's better to build a 30-28 Nosler…I wish I would have known before I ordered my barrel.

I rebarreled my 300RUM Rem 700 to a 30Nosler long before the 300PRC was on the drawing board. I've got no regrets. Good velocity, very accurate, reduced recoil/blast and capable of utilizing the longest 30cal bullets even though I prefer mid-weight bullets for hunting.

I haven't purchased a box of factory ammo in 40 years so that wasn't a consideration for me.

There's the 30-378, 300 rum, I'm pretty sure the weatherby is faster then the nosler as well as the norma. There's many others in the wildcat department of coarse. The nosler suffers from the short saami spec where the prc doesn't. How much more velocity are you gunna get from a long throated nosler compared to the prc?

I will let you know once mine is put together. I hear 100-150fps but I haven't found out for myself yet.

Hard to say what the velocity gain would be but I bet it would be noticeable especially with the long heavy bullets because they would eat into powder capacity significantly at SAAMI length.
