30 NOSLER OR 300 PRC

I've got a bit on standby but won't be using it as my main powder unless I find some more. Only have about two pounds of it. I've got a bunch of rl25 to play with and I'd be surprised if it didn't also get there. It would be ok for a range load but I don't like the temp instability for a hunting load. Also have large quantities of imr7828, ram shot magnum, h4831sc and imr4831. The 4831's are gunna be a bit two slow. I've also got a bit of h1000 to try out but not enough to sustain so we shall see.

My 26" 300 win mag had no problems getting over 2900 with the 225's with any decent powder and I'd expect a 24" prc to run close to the same as that. Hornady says 2850 with rl25/26. Honestly I'm fine with 2850 also. Accuracy is king. Looking for a really good consistent load to take out to a mile for some fun.
Correct. My target velocity for any of my magnums is anywhere from 2850-3250 with heavy for caliber bullets.

Anything that gives me that kind of performance and shoot bugholes to half MOA suits me.

When components grew on trees I'd spend a lot of time trying to maximize both accuracy and velocity but even then it really wasn't worth it other than the self satisfaction I got from knowing I could. I not that guy anymore.

What is rl26? I've heard tales of a powder called rl26...i heard it was made from unicorn laughter and angel dreams....heard it used to be plentiful all over the place....then about 2 years ago there was and extinction level event on the mid Atlantic coast and poof....rl26 is unobtainable. Even got the mighty retumbo 😢😫

Unicorn farts, fairy tales, and reloaders dreams, oh and the scales from a fire breathing dragon.

A little fairy brought me about 14lbs of it 2 years ago when everyone was misinformed about it's stability and because some moron on the net sad that even at minimal starting loads he was over pressure.

Their stupidity, my benefit.

It's not a better design then the prc. Can it be a bit faster. Yes. But there's plenty of faster cartridges then the 30
The cartridge being 3.34 sucks but if you hand load that is irrelevant.
The 30 nosler is a better design. It's faster and more efficient. Any cartridge with increased velocity is going to have fair amount more powder to get there. 300 prc isnwithin a few grains of nosler and the nosler will shoot the heavies faster & further

300 wby will out perform the 300 prc too.
I get 3150 with 205
Berger's & Peterson brass with the first powder I tried
Yeah now that Peterson is making brass for cartridges like .300 wby it changes the game. The old kings are reclaiming their place at the top of the performance ladder. If Peterson starts making .30-378 brass that'd be wicked.

the 338-378 would be back in action if peterson made it or the 30-378 brass or hell id even take peterson 378 weatherby

The original .378 is such a bada** cartridge. So overlooked. I'd love to own one sometime. Not the same class as the big cheytac or xc rounds but still some serious long range ability with the 350 matchking or such, or bowstring trajectory with 200-250 grain monos like Barnes or hammers.

Nothing to do with the prc or Nosler but that .378 weatherby…people debate about big bullets moving slow vs little bullets moving fast…hard to argue with a big bullet moving fast! In many peoples thinkng .375 cal is where big begins (though it's a medium bore) and 3000 fps is where fast begins for hunting cartridges. The .378 checks both.

It may be faster. That's not better by any means. More efficient, maybe by a very small percentage. The 3.34 is a huge handicap and was a mistake. I handload but that doesn't matter if I wanna go buy a box of factory in a pinch. They're both good and an elk at 1k isn't going to look at you and say if only you were using the other. I do like the nosler and brass seems fairly attainable. I just did a 7 saum and I probably never will build another cartridge that's hard to get brass for. It's dumb lol

I bought enough brass to last the life of the barrel for the last two rifles I built. I bought the brass FIRST.

I waited a year to get quality brass for my PRC. I was on the ADG waiting list for nearly the whole time but they never contacted me even when they did production runs. I waited on two list for Lapua 6.5 brass, one was paid for in advance. It took about 6-7 months but both companies sent me 200 rounds within one week of each other. I really don't need 400 rounds of 6.5 PRC brass at the moment so I just ordered another Bartlein carbon barrel so I've got something to do with it. LOL

I did the same. Bought my 30N ADG brass well before I had the rifle. I'll pick up some more but I'm probably OK with what I have.

I bought 500pcs of lapua 300prc when it first came out. These days you need to buy the freedom seeds at the time of or before the purchase of the rifle.

My idiot neighbor bought a sig cross in 277furry and has 3 rounds left from the first 2 boxes of ammo he was "allowed" to buy at the time he purchased the rifle. He said he saw some for sale on GB for $175 a box...... I about died laughing!!

This thread just cost me $125! Figured I better pick up another box of 30N ADG. Blue Collar has them in stock.
