Your Ultimate 500 Yard Rig

I absolutely love my hunting rifle. It's my favorite at 500 or any range that I would try to take game. It's a 300 WM built on a Big Horn TL2 action, Mark Chanlynn barrel,Calvin elite Timney trigger with an XTRII. I primarily shoot 215 and 230 begers. But, I have also shot 212 eld x's through it. It plain and simple keeps a freezer full! And it's a joy to shoot. I like any rifle that makes it look like I know what I'm doing

Same rifle I've used for almost 30 years. At an ounce or 2 over 9 pounds (fully loaded, scoped, and slung), it's getting heavier for a "sheep type" hunt.....but, I ain't planning on changing. Semi-custom, Win. Model 70, light contour Douglas Match Grade SS barrel,chambered in .375 AI, barrel mounted front sling swivel, express sights, McMillan stock, Pachmayr Decelerator, Leupold 3.5-10 in Leupold QD bases/rings and a Leupold 2.5-8, zero'd and on standby. I had it built in '89, it is and hopefully forever will be....my "only" hunting rifle! Presently running, 250 grain, TTSX's @ 3130 fps muzzle velocity.

My last kill, a Pronghorn @430 yards, good placement. I think an elk @ 500, should be pretty easy! If need be....I can stretch it's range to 600+, pretty easily, with good shooting conditions! memtb

Just curious what sort of recoil a monster like that comes back at your shoulder with. Sounds like there's nothing in the world you couldn't hunt out to 500 yards! Very nice choice.

7mm WSM, Kelbly Custom Build, Jewel trigger, Brux #4 barrel with Break, March 2.5X25 scope, Harris Swivel Bipod, Bell & Carlson stock: shooting hand loads, 180 gr. berger vld at 2950 fps. Pic of gun and a 5 shot group at 200 yards. Scary accurate gun, and really fun to shoot. 6 years with this gun, never lost an animal and never needed a second or follow up shot. HANKS. In Hornady - it's the ELD-X - and in ABerger - VLD. Very aero-dynamic bullets = great for long range shooting.

Oregunsmithing custom ultra-lite, 338-06 Ackley, topped with a Leupold 4.5-14CDS. Built on a colt light rifle action, tuned trigger Weighs in at 5 lbs with scope and all.
Pushes a 200 grain E-tip at 2825, shooting .435 Gropius and so far has dropped everything in its tracks out to 675 yards.

I'm with ya on the 7mm WSM. Great cartridge and very flat shooter. 3/8" @ 100Yds 3412 fps with 140g accubond. Point blank to 400yds.

It's a 300 Win Mag built on a Bighorn TL2 action, with a Mark Chanlynn barrel, in a Manners EH-1 stock with a Calvin Elite Timney trigger. It shoots 215 and 230 Begers most of the time, but it also shoots 212 Eld x's well. Oh yeah, and it's a quiet 300wm with the Dead Air Sandman Ti. It's an All-day meat in the freezer rifle and it's great to shoot. When it's not wearing it's Sandman, it wears an APA lil bastard brake. Either way it has impeccable manners in the woods or on the range.

Wilkup, Thanks! I love my rifle, and am pretty darn happy and confident with it. It's nothing "fancy" just a all around rifle, of reasonable carry weight! Can't remember the recoil numbers exactly, near 60 as I remember. I'm good for 20 rounds from the bench (using a PAST pad), at one sitting....maybe a few more. But, the next days shooting is a direct reflection of the previous days recoil. Used from field positions....it's pretty much a "***** cat"! memtb

Remington sendero with proof research barrel 7mm rem mag. 180gr hornady bullet. Huskemaw 5-20×50 scope. It's good to 500 and well beyond.

I'm almost through building my latest "do it all" project. Seems every couple years I change my mind and start again
This time it's a blueprinted Model 7 with significant metal work done to reduce weight, custom walnut stock, heavily fluted 8" twist Brux, chambered for 270SS. I put a Nikon M Tactical 3-12 up up top. Planning to chase animals with some 117/126gr Hammer Hunters this next spring. I'm confident it will kill anything I may come in contact with hunting in my PNW corner. Loaded, scoped, and slung weight is 7.5lbs.
