There would be long term ramifications had they not shut it down. The healthcare system could not have handled staying open. If you are referring to the laptop, it was not confirmed that it was actually Hunter Biden's until months after the election. Timing was very suspicious. They waited until right before the election to release it so that it would affect the election outcome before anyone actually knew what was on it. There is nothing incriminating about Joe Biden on it and that would not have been discovered until after the election. The people who released it were hoping it would have the same effect as the fbi announcing that they found a laptop with emails that belonged to one of hillary's advisors a week before the election. Turns out, they were already aware of the emails and it was nothing. That did not matter. The damage was done. It was the final straw that destroyed any chance Hillary had of winning.
