Wolves in MT

After wolf calling to locate, then go to rabbit, if closer. There usually spread out in pairs a lot where I am. There hard to get in timber country, catch them on winter range and frozen lakes

Boom......that first sentence is the way to roll.

I've called in 2 packs of them now. One by accident when I was calling in a bear, the other pack I spotted them on a snowy hilliside, snuck within calling range and got to it. They up and came in on a line! Too bad they weren't legal to shoot at that time, might could of run a triple.

I buy 3 tags a year in hopes of calling in and taking a triple that to me would be the end all. Right up there with calling in a mtn lion and taking him (I've called in over 60 bears as of now). Calling with a mouth/hand call is the juice for me:)

My hunting buddy has called in 2 while bugling elk while I was with him.He missed one there where 6 in that pack, we had no side arms. Then I tried to intercept another time.He called one in moose calling shot it at 20 yrds frontal.Hes also called in 2 lions one when I was with and another that wanted to mess with him, in ID.hes been stalked twice by cats.I say he's head looks like the back end of a deer.Ha.

Why would you ever call to wolves when you could not hunt them. All that does is to educate them and make them call shy. Not smart.
I did this close to a full decade prior to being able to legally hunt them. I was busy educating myself to see what they'd respond to, as well how they'd respond and to what tones or howls.

I seriously doubt I screwed up someone's hunt where they were calling a full 10 years later on...but that's just my opinion. If I'd of said I did it shortly before we could legally hunt them and you told me it wasn't very smart I'd totally agree with you.

But, for you to jump to the conclusion that you did without knowing all the facts that's well as you said it "Not Smart" of you to do so!

Enjoy your New Year:)
