With the rem 700 no longer being made what your action of choice for your long range rifle ?

I'd build on one, lacking a lathe I'd screw a Criterion of Shilen on it with a barrel nut, install a Timney or Rifle Basics in a Manners stock and be really happy. Cost May be 1200?
$1200 might be a reach with a Manners stock but sounds good. I'm building my short mag in the Grayboe Phoenix stock. Just got the stock last week. It's sweet!

Action $600
Barrel/nut $400-450?
TriggerTech $150
Grayboe Terrain $330 or Grayboe Phoenix $600
Bottom metal $120-160

Already got a Krieger 1/10.
Don't want to hiJack the thread but here's the new Grayboe Phoenix stock.

Smokeless Muzzleloader a hard shooting beast that feasts on IMR 4198 and pushes 275 gr Slugs to upwards of 2800 fps!!
In states that don't allow CF rifles this is the gun of choice. Many shoot sub MOA and better.

I reading a lot of people dogging the Remington 700 action. I have two Surgeon receivers. one in 308 and one in 338 edge. Both are great rifle and the receivers were bought before they were moved to AZ. I do hoard Rem 700 receivers because they are a great platform to build a budget custom rifle. I have built several rifles for myself including 260 Rem IMP, 6MM Norma Dasher, 224 Valkyrie, 6.5-284, 260 Rem, 300 WM and 6-284. I do replace all the bolts and blue print the receivers (I own a Lathe and Mill). Cut my own chambers and threading. On the bolts. I open the receivers up to .705 and order one piece bolts from PT&G at .703.. Then I lap the bolt to the receiver. I also install side bolt release Yes this is a lot of work but I feel my blueprinted Remington's shoot just as good or better than some full custom rifles. They hang with my Surgeons all day long.
Hello Rhino55, do you work on others' 700 actions?

By the time you spend the $$ to get a 700 action running properly, you are at custom action money. BAT, Borden and Stiller all make awesome 700 clones that are the perfect foundation to a custom rifle.

A Mac bros is about the cheapest 700 action on the market right now at $775 I can't see any reason to buy a factory 700 to build on with that available.
