Why shoot a sissy rifle?

Tagging back in. Creedmoor has simply been too large to fit the cz527 action that I have grown to like as a light walk around carry rifle. 6.5 Grendel has been as large as I have tried in that little Mauser action, Though I have come to believe the 6mm Arc is a perfect fit in this application. YMMV

When a cannon is what you need, then nothing less will do. How often do we need a cannon? Thus far in my personal experience, the need for a cannon has been near, nonexistent.
At least with a cannon you are never under powered 😛
I like cannons 😂

Suppose I have multiple tools that each fit the task at hand. In a arborist roll I may want a large chain saw with a 30" bar when cutting the stump at ground level. When limbing the tree the larger saw is not in use as a smaller saw with a 12" bar is much easier to handle & is very well, up to the task at hand.

I may use the small saw many days throughout a season & seldom find need for the larger saw as I am primarily working on small branches.

Boils down to having the right tool for the job at hand. And yes, I do subscribe that over kill is a real matter that I prefer to avoid.

yeah... I like your analogy. I probably should went with the .270 rather than 6.5 CM but I thought that might have been overkill ;)... Ever tried using an axe?

Yes I have used an axe a good deal. Some times I feel a axe is the right tool for the job at hand & in other cases a pruning shear fits the task at hand better.

As a archery hunter on the other hand I do subscribe to using an adult arrow (arrow near or above 650 grains total arrow weight) I like to tip the adult arrow with a 200 grain long single bevel 2 blade broad head. My arrow speed may not exceed 230 FPS, yet it gets the job done with little fuss.
Amazing how everyone used to kill critters with setup's just like this. Nowadays you need to shoot way faster than 230 fps to kill a deer, just like you need a 7 mag to kill deer at a hundred yards.

I got mine in 2018 when my 10 year old son came home from school the weekend before deer season, talkin about "Daddy all my friends are deer hunting next weekend, I wanna go too." So I went to town looking for a rifle and found a last minute deal on a Browning AB3 6.5 Creedmoor. He's now 16 and shooting a borrowed 280AI this year, that he will be receiving for his birthday in April. For the record he named the Creedmoor "man bun"!🤣🤣

Yep, the boys over on Rokslide would certainly agree with your last statement! All you need for everything from field mice to a blue whale is a .223 and a 77 TMK! That's provided, of course, that one can make the absolute PERFECT shot placement. Me, I would want something that was capable of at least a good chance of humanely taking an animal if/when the shot WASN'T quite perfect.

I think when hunting with a lesser cartridge you have to be very patient and wait for the perfect shot much like archery hunting.
Many patient hunters have humanely killed deer and yes elk with a 223.
I wouldn't hesitate to take my 223 deer hunting if it were legal in my state.

Yeah, humans wiped out elk (and almost wiped out whitetails) East of the Mississippi using 36-45 cal flintlocks, but you need a 338WM to kill them now.
Evolution is a bitch, I guess.

Actually, if you read through the thread, you will see multiple examples of people taking less than perfect shots on deer and elk and still killing them just fine.
