We do have some little stuff around here……we just don't hunt with them. The little ones can be fun to play with……and less expensive!

We may have to drag out the 6.5-284 and fire a celebratory shot out the back door to initiate the New Year! 😁

That should help appease some here! 😜 memtb

I don't know about you guys, but I've shelved a lot of reloading projects with my big boomers because of the price and availability of powder, LRM primers, etc. My 6ARC, 6.5 Grendel, 6.5CM, 222 and other smaller capacity cartridges are getting more bench time because of this. Smaller case capacity and cheaper bullets = more time behind the trigger for me.
Did same but with Centennial cartridges like .270 Win and now 30-06. Faster twists, 700LA's to max magazine capacity married up with freebore. Brass everywhere, LR brass, shoot so many powders well and performance hard to believe. No different than 6.5CM using longer higher BC bullets with freebore and right twist. Unless you think a .270 or 30-06 is too much recoil? 😂

I like a good ol' '06. I've been shooting my Garand some since I have cans of M2 ball still from the good (cheap) days!

Me,. I LIKE using, ONLY, 43.5 grains of, StaBall 65, "Thrown" Charges, Launching 130's @ 2,800+ FPS from, a 6.5 Creed. into, TINY group's,..
3's to 1/2 MOA with with, MUCH Less,.. Recoil ! ( But If, a .270 is All you Got, that's OK, too,.. just use, 130's in it to, keep, the recoil Down ).
PS; @ memtb,. IF, I can't Get within, 400- 500 Yards of, an Elk / Deer / Antelope,.. I NEED to,.. Quit, Hunting !
Here in Idaho, 2 Ladies have used, 6.5 Creed's with, 143 ELD-X's to Shoot, 2 Giant, Bull Elk at, 345 and 385 Yards BOTH,.. DRT in, a Few seconds !
Kid's, Ladies and MORE than, a Few, of, us Old guys, LOVE,.. the 6.5 Creed. !
Have a Happy New Year,. ALL !

Luckily I had some staball 6.5 sitting on my shelf and it's been very good in my 6.5 CM with 140 ballistic tip.
I can't say I had as good of results with it in my 7-08 though. Not even close.

Again, we are talking about normal people hunting with normal rifles. I understand this blog is called Long Range Hunting, but the 270 as well as the 6.8 Western kick the butt of the 6.5 CM all the way across the hay-field at normal long range hunting distances. To my humble way of thinking, no ethical hunter should shoot at any game animal beyond 300 yards, and never beyond 600 yards.

The chances of a first round fatal hit at longer ranges show diminishing returns as range increases. I don't know how many of you are familiar with the Backfire series on You Tube, https://www.youtube.com/backfire but in many of their shows, Jim shows the probability of a first round hit, mostly at ranges out to 600 yards is not all that good, and the few times the show, shooting out to 1000 shows the improbability of a first round hit all the time. The second point to make here is, in my humble opinion, hunting ends and execution begins, probably at around 400 yards. Beyond that, the animal does not know that you are there, and thus it is no longer hunting but mostly attempted murder of a game animal.

I am not disputing that the 6.5 Creedmoor is better at 1000 yards, that was never disputed. However, the 270 is a much better choice for hunting out to 600 yards, beyond that the 6.5 takes the lead.

I really like the 270 😊
My wife has dumped many deer between 350-575 with her 270

Teri Anne,
If you were to just give the mighty CREED a try you would see that the 270 and the creed are the EXACT SAME THING from the muzzle to at least 600 yards. Shoot 100 deer with each with your 130 or 140 grain bullet of choice and see if you can tell the difference in wound channel, time to death, or even recoil in like rifles...you can't. 130 or 140 grain accubonds, partitions b-tips, Gamekings - all will behave the same from either. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...The great and powerful OZ is just a marketing genious.

We need to apply the "brakes" on this idea……hard! 😜 memtb
Memtb I'd take it if you didn't want it. I'm sure I could find a quick sale and make a profit. I could live with the gun by itself. I don't do brakes. Can't stand the dang things. Even with ear protection on they still ring my ears. Nor do I do suppressors due to the mother may I stamp and the extra length they add. I'll stick with my heavier rifle and longer, large profile barrel and still spot my shots.

A kind and generous offer……but, one 6.5 in the family is sufficient! 😉 It's not a CM but kinda, sorta, a little, similar……but, different!

It's that time of year, giving gifts to those ya love! Though, gifting someone a CM would be like giving alcohol to children! 😂 memtb

Well, I'm 70 years plus from being a child and I don't drink but dang it, I sat here and read every single response to this thread so I think I qualify as a worthy recipient for a free rifle!!! Happy New Year and God Bless you all!

It kinda sounds like the 270 win is actually a girls rifle. That makes me feel better about my 6.5 creedmoor. 😁
