Lately I have seen Rel 26 prices soar. What makes it so great compared to other powders in it's class? I have several 1 lb containers of the Rel 26. Yes it gives me very good performance in my 6.5's. But , so does Ramshot magnum. The Ramshot is a tick slower burning , & requites one to two more grains for he same performance for half the cost of Rel 26.

Ask @Muddyboots what is so great haha. He is an Addict. Some folks are addicted to the Colombian powder…his affliction is of the Swedish variety 🤣

It's a progressive burn rate slow burning powder that readily obtains 100-200 fps over non-progressives without exceeding max pressure, just maintains peak pressure a bit longer, the pressure curve isn't as spikey.

I use RL23 in a LOT of loads.
It has been VERY scarce for the last few years, but not as bad as RL26. I got 16# last year, which was the first I had seen it available in 2 years. Now...who knows when we will see it again.

Time to find replacement powder choices. VV N565 is a good choice.

A little less than a year ago I asked my LGS owner why he never had any Alliant powder in stock, even after he started receiving fairly large quantities of Hodgdon, IMR, Accurate, Ramshot, and Vitavouri powders. He said Alliant jacked up the prices on all their powder. His cost was so high he didn't feel he could make a profit stocking it and didn't want to hear the grumbling customers blaming him for the high prices. So he elected not to buy it.
Now Alliant has cancelled all orders claiming a nitrocellulose shortage. I'm down to one open bottle of every alliant powder from RL15-33 and 5# of ARComp for my Grendel Hog hunting loads. Looks like I'll be doing some load development again for my other rifles.

I am not buying into what the manufacturers and distributors are saying. It's kind of like some of the bourbons I used to prefer. Blantons restricted their supply and prices doubled. Now they have set a much more profitable price point. FOMO (fear of missing out) has set in and people will pay whatever price they put on it.

That stuff isn't worth the price. Try the Jefferson Reserve Pritchard Hill. Anyways this is off the Alliant WEBSITE; "
Why are your powders so hard to find?
The unprecedented demand for commercial ammunition, powder and other reloading components has exceeded the industry's ability to keep product on the shelves at most retail outlets. In response to this industry-wide issue, we are continually making process improvements to increase our efficiency and investing in capital and personnel where we have sustained demand. We remain committed to serving all channels of our business."

S&D gets quite volatile when the S is controlled by very few, or in this case one.

The Chinese knew what they were doing with the Kung Flu, it created some long hangovers and grand opportunities for the immoral.

Oh for sure it did…but it'd be a bit too easy to somehow just attribute all of this price gouging somehow to the Chinese. The prices, "inflation", and control of supply to force demand reeks of good old AMERICAN STYLE capitalism as well, the dark greedy exploitative dishonest side of it.

But I agree about the opportunity for the immoral, no matter what business they're in or country they call home. I swear just about everyone has jacked up the price of everything BECAUSE THEY CAN, even when it's not actually required. Up here in Canada some of our grocery chains are getting taken to task about this bull 💩. Our government is corrupt as all hell BUT SO ARE THE BIG CORPORATIONS THAT PULL ALL THE STRINGS. They claimed last year that everything had gotten so much more expensive because of "covid disruptions" and "supply chain issues" and bla bla bla, groceries going up 20-50 percent depending on the item, families struggling to keep food on the table…and then these A-holes reported RECORD BREAKING PROFITS in 2023. "Inflation". Yeah more like greed and getting away with it!!!!

Gotta ask.....

Do you prefer the good old CANADIAN STYLE capitalism where everything is twice as expensive as the the US?
Certainly not. The Canadian model combines the worst of both socialism AND American capitalism haha, double whammy at the checkout till. Wasn't taking a shot at America either, I could have just said "the west" in general. All I was saying was that all this nonsense has every bit as much if not more to do with the activities of "domestic" governments and companies as it has to do with foreign (Chinese) ones.

I don't know what y'all call yours, but ours is Bidenomics, aka gov't thieving.
