Who is in love with their 260rem?

Man I am embarrased to come in here and admit it, but after much debate and soul searching, I've sold my soul to the devil. I just ordered a 6.5cm reamer.
Figured it's my first time to cut a chamber so the creedmore should compensate for any fubars I create along the way and the worst that could happen is I'll end up with a rifle that only shoots 1/2" groups at 1000yds instead of 1/4" right?
In all seriousness though, I already have the dies to load for it, and the headspace gauges so it ended up being the least expensive route to get some metal chips flying in the shop and some rounds flying down range.
Next one though is probably gonna be something in the SS lineup....got some bonus money coming my way real soon...

The 260 simply never caught on. It is a good enough round, but the 6.5 Creedmoor addresses all of the 260's shortcomings and will be the final nail in the coffin.

If you hand load and don't want or need bullets heavier than about 120-130 gr the 260 will do anything the 6.5 will do. Brass made from 308 is readily available as are 6.5 bullets.

If buying a rifle today I'd not touch a 260 with the 6.5 Creed available. But if I had one that I liked I'd probably not sell it either. The 260 was the inspiration for the 6.5 anyway. Long range target shooters discovered what the 260 could do, but to get best results required custom rifles and custom hand loads. The 6.5 Creed simply offers factory rifles and loads duplicating what the 260 target shooters were already doing.

Remington screwed up the 260's chances by not offering guns and ammo for their creation. Ruger, Savage and others have offered very accurate 6.5 Creed rifles at good prices from the beginning and Hornady flooded store shelves with match grade ammo selling at very good prices.

Proud owner of several 6.5mm rifles, and find the 260 rem, to be best balanced of them all. From the Grendel to 6.5 stw. All of them custom rifles. The 260 is easy to load, at least easier then my 6.5 creedmoor. Go out and have fun

The .260Rem is a fantastic cartridge. I had one for a long time.

I run a 6.5SLR myself. (.260Rem w. 6.5x47L neck/shoulder). I just rebuilt my old one after 2300+ rounds in about 4 years. Not PRS volume, but a lot more than 98% of rifles will ever see.

With a 1:9" twist, I would look at the 130 Berger AR Hybrid myself. That bullet could get to 2950 depending on barrel length, high BC, very accurate and easy to tune, and whoops on game like Mommy Dearest.

You could also look at a magnum like 6.5SS, 6.5SAUM, 6.5WSM, .264WM, etc. and wring the speed out of a 130 and stretch the legs out of it.

I have a DPMS LR308 that I rebarelled with a Proof 260 barrel, 8 twist. Shoots amazing for a gas gun with 130 ELD M's - very happy with the 260. I'm planning on rebarelling a Rem 700 from 308 to 260 Ackley for long range coyotes and wolves.
What is your load for your DPMS 260? I'm searching for a load for a 22" barrel,and a 24" barrel,bot in AR10's.

Don't know bout AR10 load yet. I have a Predator AR10 in 308. Shoots one hole with Fed match 168s.
But my favorite bolt round is the 260 rem.
43.00 grains of H4350. Have a Panda with 29" Bartlein 5R 8 twist. PTG match chamber throated for 140 grain Berger Hybrids. Work done by Bartlein. Have a Ruger Precision that was a 6.5 Credemore. Had Greg at Southern Precision make a Bartlein 28.5" 260 barrel for it. 5r 8-twist. Greg used same reamer as Panda. Both guns shoot same load. Throats are .004" different. I was originally loading the Hybrids into lands. Ran some tests. Now Load the Hybrids .030 off lands. 2952 fps from Lab Radar. Zero pressure signs. Both guns shoot like particle weapons. The Panda has the edge but the Ruger is just a joy to shoot. I keep a spare 30" Bartlein Barrel here for next 260.
Been thinking bout a 6.5/300 SAUM or a PRC but I'm at 3000 fps from my 260s.
Next AR10 will be a 260 Rem. Not a 6 or 6.5 Credemore.

Going to build one for deer next.

I, also, love my 260, a stock Tikka Forest (1:8 twist) that I modified a bit: longer bolt throw, mag modification for the longer Bergers, bedded and pillars, plasitic parts to metal. Bergers with H4350. Most every time I head out the door to harvest a deer I look at my 243, 260, 280ai and 300 wm.......and pick up the 260.

Have been shooting a 6.5 since 1964, Rem 700. Still shoots great. Took my best bull ever with it in 2014. 1/9 twist & shoots with excellent accuracy any bullet from 100gr to 140. Also have a 6.5x308 1/8 twist built well before the 260 came out. Another 260 by Savage , 1/8, 6.5x06, 1/8 , 6.5x55, 1/8 & other .264 mags , some with 1/8, some with 1/9. Any bullet from 100gr to 140 gr never been a problem. My bullet of choice has been the Barnes 120TSX/TTSX. My 6.5x308 & 260 Rem have taken numerous elk by me & others. Never has disappointed. Super easy to load. 3004fps with Barnes 120grTSX. See no advantage in a 6.5CM unless I want to shoot the same bullet as my 260 a little slower. Short is short which amounts to less powder capacity. The correct name of the 6.5CM should be 260 short.

I agree. The speedmore is speedless.
I'm putting another 6.5 Crede together right now. I could not talk the guy off it. Marketing! "260 Remington?" "That's old Tech". So is my wife. So is my AC Cobra. Wanna race?
