Which caliber for mule deer

Just don't get carried away with the 308 if conditions are windy and it does get windy up here. But it'll smack a muley dead at 5-600 no problem.

People mention wind blowing a 308 around but look at the numbers. At 500 yds, a 10 mph wind moves a 308 with 155s about 3" more than a 300wm with 210s. You'll be fine with any caliber if you can call wind even a little. Post pics! We all dream of hunting those slobs up there

As a local Albertan, with Muleys in the back yard...….confidence, and confidence. Which ever one inspires consistency, every caliber needs wind doping and elevation adjustments......unless its a Creedmore, then just hold on to crosshairs out to 800 yards LOL. 308 will be fine.

TAKE THE ONE YOU ARE MOST COMFORTABLE WITH … where in Alberta ?? Long open ranges down by Manyberries ?? or mixed Forest with Plains ...??? Accuracy and Bullet Placement the Priority, Mulies not that hard to kill … been hunting them for years(decades) .. my favorite spot was a knoll @ 700 +- metres to where they came out of the wooded area every dusk … then up in the timber, not so easy to spot and stalk .. LRB (Alberta Rockies) good luck and enjoy … if you are around pea fields bring a shotgun and hunt Grey Partridge ...

Complete your development. Either the 308 or 7mm Rem Mag will work great on muleys. Forget about other calibers - they are not as potent. Whichever of these you like the best or feel more comfortable with, practice with that one. Don't settle on too light a bullet. 160gr minimum for either caliber! Your shot at a lifetime opportunity might not be the perfect broadside shot. Penetration requires the heavier bullet. At least 165gr in 308 and 160gr in 7mm. You won't be sorry!

Be a real hunter. Sneak up close to one with a 30-30. That caliber has probably killed more deer than all the other ones combined.

Here's my question. I have had a last minute change to go on a once in a lifetime mule deer hunt in Alberta. And I don't feel like any of my rifles are completely dialed in. Calibers to choose from 300 rsaum. 308 7mm Rem mag. 308 is closest to being done. Just need to confirm data. 300 is good for 400 yds. 7mm is in the load development stage. Current load is 3/4to 1 moa I have 2 days to get one ready. What would you do

Hope you have a great hunt. No matter what happens just make sure you enjoy the time out in nature. If you do that all hunts are good ones.
