Which bullet for deer for 6.5CM inside 400 yards?

I ran up to 3100 with a 120smk with 100V. The hammer should get there as well. I loaded 42 for 2900 and 43 for 2990. @ 2990 it was the same zero as my 147 load with Rl26 @ 2830fps.
For a kid or wife/girlfriend a 120 at 2850-2900 is a real sweet spot. Hits hard enough and the rifle just sits still.
I'm sure with the ease of loading the 117 hammer would be a pleasure to shoot and quite deadly on game

I am a constant second guesser, I was gonna do 4350 then thought varget would give me more room in the case. And Steve had good luck with it so I ran with it. Now I'm always thinking maybe 4350 or 17 would do better. I think varget May be a bit better for the lighter stuff but 4350 seems great for the heavier ones. Not that 30 FPS would change much either way.

Steve, curious as to why you recommend the 117 over the 124?
Not sure that it is"better". The Sledge Hammers seem to hit harder on game with the big 2.5mm hollow point. At the shorter yardage bc is of no importance and I like the higher impact vel. There is no need to worry about shedding to much weight on a short shot so the extra vel is a benefit. I don't think you can go wrong with either. I have always leaned toward the sexier bullets just because of my desire to shoot longer range. But seeing the Sledge Hammers hit animals There is a difference with the larger frontal area on impact.

Makes sense! Thanks

That's where I'm at with varget . Shot a group today under .5" at 200 yards and it consistently shoots sub half around.38" if I do my part groups.
I can vouch for the sledge hammer. I had some loaded for my uncles .358 Norma mag and they look like they will hit like a truck. Crazy hollow point. He's gonna see what he can take in Texas with it in a few weeks. He can't shoot very far and it's a very light rifle so it made sense in that one also.

I'm working with my daughters 6.5 Creedmore right now, just in the finding pressure stages. Using Lapua small primer brass. I'm shooting 123 ELDMs, 143 eldx, 147 eldm, 130 Berger, 140 Berger and 124 Hammers.
This year ruled out the 143 ELDx, they blew up on her deer with a soft hit so that's not going to cut it for elk as well.
I've shot a pile of elk and deer with the 140 Berger and it was stellar but I run them 300+ fps faster than a Creed.
Hoping the 124 Hammers show me some love, shot some deer size game with them and they were awesome.
I used to shoot the Accubonds in my bigger 6.5 but had to many that I recovered that were marginally open when below 2400fps impact. So their not even on the radar.

So far ran R16 under the 123 eldm and 147 eldm, ran out of csse capacity at 3000 fps on the 123 and got a hint of pressure signs on the 147 at 2800 fps in a 20 inch barrel.
Have R26 ladder loaded under the 147 and H4895 under the Hammer.

I would use it on nyala. Have not loaded it in the creed. I think I would start with Varget with it as well. You might run out of case though. I would start where you left off with the 124g. I would hope for another 100 fps. Longer baring surface but lighter weight.

@snox801 I think the radius drive bands are showing less pressure than your qb is showing.
Gotta agree with the radius drive bands showing less pressure.
RockyMtMT, have you ever done a modeling comparison on your bullets vs say a Barnes to see the difference in the amount of material displaced by the rifling?
OP, I haven't shot hammers through any of my rifles yet, but I won't hesitate to try some once I get off my lazy *** and chamber my barrel blank. I've heard nothing but good things about the hammers.
