Which boots?

I am a guide in Montana, and clocked a few miles. I have worn everything from Crispi, Kenetrek,t Under Armour to Wal- Marts (Chad Brama) ! Didn't Always have money for good boots, what I can tell you is that Crispi or Schnees are by far the best IMO. I have never even had to break a pair in. Like many have said, your feet are your guide, so treat them well. Crispi have a 200g in the Nevada or Guide but act warmer and breath better when hot out due to the way they adhere the thinsulate to the goretex. Spend the extra 100 bucks and protect your footing, your feet will appreciate it.

The Danner's that I replaced were Trophy's which replaced my first pair which were the Canadians. Both of which I don't believe they even make anymore. I had the Canadians in high school and put them through a lot of crap, great boot wore them out my second year in college. The Trophy's were a good boot but a few years in the mountains they started to get soft and not provide much support. I still have them and use them once in awhile bird hunting.

$$$ spent on tag✅ $$ Travel ✅ $$ rifle and ammo✅ Compromising on boots. Not so much. If it's cold, snowy and wet. Boots are I'm valuable. Just saying.
I've used Keen boots with wide toe and their bamboo thinsulate? Have hunted -15 with no problem. Good ankle support and decent grip in snow.

Going on my first elk hunt next fall, gonna buy a pair of boots here in the next week or so to be able to get them broke in this season. Kennetrek, crispi etc are out of my price range. Wanting to stay under $300. Going to be going during 3rd rifle season in Colorado. I'm thinking a 400 or 600 gram boot with a heated insole that I can turn on when I get where I'm going. I think 1000 is too much because my feet sweat bad. I do have merino socks already also

mainly looking at the danner powderhorn, danner elk hunter or the Irish setter elk tracker.

who has experience with these or recommendations for others in this price range? I mainly hunt whitetails in MO and the only hunting boots I've worn for the last 10 years are my muck woody elites so any advise is appreciated.

I honestly hike more during the elk season then just about everybody I know. Not saying I'm the best, just saying that I put some serious miles in. 200+ miles in 12 days during our elk season. Last year I had surgery on my big toe for arthritis in the toe joint. My go to boot before the surgery is actually still might go to boot after the surgery. I have yet to have a better pair of boots than these. I have the 400 g model. https://meindlusa.com/collections/hunting/products/comfort-fit®-hunter

DANNERS

I just got back from 3rd season in CO. I lived in my Schnees Hunter II's for the entire week. I took my Lowa's but never wore them as they are more of a mild weather boot in my opinion. The Hunter II's were awesome and worked well in the snow that ranged from a couple of inches to a foot depending on where I was. I paired them with a set of Outdoor Research gaiters and put lots of miles on them with no complaints. No issues with cold feet while glassing either.

I have a pair of the Cabelas snake boots with the knob and cable tightening system and 400 grams of insulation. I adjust to the climate by switching from light to heavy Smartwool socks. I like not having to worry about laces coming untied and they slip on and off very easily. Unfortunately I dont know if they make them anymore or not since I quit going to Cabelas and got a Scheels card.

CHANGED per Len's spanking*
I would be very careful putting a hard-line budget on the only thing that will keep you either in the hunt or keep you at elk camp.
Id like to recommend a pair of Hanwag Tatra Top GTX if that's okay with the Crispi and Kennetrek owners, or anyone else that isn't a Hanwag boot owner. They are a real backpacking boot, not hunting boots and thank God they're marketed that way or they'd likely cost us hunters nearly a grand. I don't know if I'd soo boldly state that their build quality is quite on par than the incredible and arguably the finest boots on the market; the Crispi's and Kennetrek's, which are available right here on this fine site, and other elite hunting and shooting forums
If I may be so bold, my Hanwags fit like they were custom built for my feet as they are nearly 100% handmade in Germany. Felt broke-in when brand new, super lightweight, bulletproof, soft but supportive, rebuildable, amazing traction and in my useless and humble opinion, THE SECOND best lacing system in the market when compared to the others. You can buy them here for 20% off and free two day shipping with coupon code 20SALE from now until the 28th. But why would you really when the others are likely better as they are real hunting boots. Good luck on your endeavors, God bless America and the First Amendment.

Far better build quality than the over-hyped and over-marketed Crispi's and Kennetrek's found all over these elite hunting and shooting forums
o_O ....positive feedback on a boot (or any other product) from actual owners/users speaks more than any marketing BS. In the case of the Crispi boots, the "hype" is for good reason. Just like you seem to like the Hanwag boots and want to recommend them.;)
