I went kelblys nanook for my build .At the time it was a year for a defiance and 6 months for the nanook . Kelblys was dead true to the 6 months and there customer service is one of the best I've ever seen. Called on a weekend and got a same day response . Lots of great options depending on $ and time .
Yes Sir, quite a few pre-fit options for Tikka. Word is the original barrel can be difficult to remove though. I'm sure you'll find much reading on going the Tikka route.
I chose an Impact simply because there are so many barrels in various calibers used out there at blank prices. Almost too many choices these days - Good luck with deciding!
Bighorn/Zermatt actions can take pre-fit barrels also. I have two and really like them!
Very smooth, positive ejection, control round feed, can get integral recoil lug.
Remington footprint, so, lots of options on stocks. I use Greyboe, AG Alpine stocks with
Triggertech triggers.

Zermatt origin would be a good place to start and get your feet wet. They run about $1000, I have seen one or two in the classifieds. If you want to go all in Bat machine Vesper they run about $2000.
Most any custom action plus a handful of factory actions will take pre-fit barrels. You can get a barrel vise, torque wrench, and action wrench and assemble the gun in about 10 minutes, then check the headspace with a set of gauges to be safe

You can absolutely build everything from a full custom to a budget build at home, without the need for a lathe or any lathe work. There are two easy ways. One includes the purchase of a barrel vice (maybe $80) and the other about the same cost in an action wrench.
1. Buy a Big Horn Origin action, buy a Shilen Select Match barrel with barrel nut, and also pick up the action wrench and barrel nut wrench. Buy, rent, borrow a 260 Go Gauge, and the whole process takes under 30 min and is same exqct process as rebarreling a Savage. All things can be bought at one time, including a trigger tech trigger from James at Northland Shooter supply.
2. You could buy a Big Horn Origin action and a shouldered prefit barrel for that action. The shouldered prefit is installed and torqued onto the action, and as long as the factory chambering was done right, the headspace should be perfect, by just torquing the barrel to spec. You will still want to check headspace with a headspace gauge. This process can also be done quickly and easily, with the use of a barrel vice from Brownells, and an action wrench for for an Origin. This approach is a little more expensive in the way of tools, but if you ever wanted to swap that barrel, or do the same thing for a buddy, you have what you need.
If you want to give this a go, some of us might even be willing to loan you some of our tools, amd coach you through it. There is a whole different level of satisfaction in shooting and hunting with a rifle that you built (assembled).

If your budget allows you, go this route; if you want to DIY, then take this route. There are plenty of custom actions and donors (other than R700, Savage, etc.) that accept pre-fit barrels (shouldered and barrel nut), so you do not need a lathe, just the mechanical skills, patience, and some tools for the assemblies. I use the Savage because they are the most DIY-friendly.
If you go with the first route, work with a reputable gunsmith. I like to establish a good working relationship with a gunsmith. I have been working with my go-to gunsmith since 2003, and have always served me well. I am a 20-minute drive from him and I stop by anytime for a chat.

During the Covid lockdown when I had extra time and money, I installed a proof research profit carbon barrel in 260 on a Tikka action. Wasn't too difficult, other than getting the factory barrel off. I change the stock out also with a Mesa tactical stock. The gun shoots lights out. Easy to shoot sub moss groups. Love the way the gun looks also. Shot my first deer with it last year and it dropped where it stood. It was a fun project.
+1 to the comment about Tikka being difficult barrels to remove. Friend is a gunsmith and on about 60-70% of Tikkas he's had to cut barrel up by threading with a parting tool to remove from action!!
Question by one member on what length you plan to shoot cartridge at is "spot on" !! If the chamber and twist you want to run is for high bc bullets (long oal) I d sure consider magazine length on whichever action you go with. In other words a medium or long action build as a 260 with such a chamber typically runs up in 2.9-3" range!!

Bat action are the best. Bat sells more action then all the rest combined.
zermatt origins medium action - you can load 260, 7-08, 284, all long and the saums ect.
WTO switchlug - if you want to change barrels without removing the action. a little more cost but worth it in the long run IMO
barrel of your choice, zermatt uses savage small shank thread pattern. if you use the switchlug you will have to get the shoulder cut for it

Another custom action American Rifle Company, Coup De Grace will take Savage small shank barrels and can be built at home.
