Absolutely love my 2 7mm wsm's. Brass has been a problem but midway had win brass in stock as of a week ago. I bought 1000 rds so i dont have to worry. I shoot 168 berger hunting/target and have had great success. Never had a failure from the bullet.

Hard to make a .284 work with a magnum bolt.
I keep hearing about how the WSM is dead but my local sporting goods stores all have 4-5 kinda of factory ammo in stock and no SAUM ammo. That said the brass availability seems to be an off and on issue. Right now now I can find Jamison, Hornady and Winchester brass in stock though. I think I'd like the smaller case of the SAUM better, but the only brass I can find in stock for it is Nosler or Norma which are essentially the same thing. And I have yet to be impressed with that. I seem to get 4-5 firings tops out of Norma brass. Adg is making SAUM brass now it seems but it's out of stock and there is a waiting list for it. I have a month or so till my barrel shows up so I'll keep pondering.

Nope, DEAD. If the 7 WSM out performs the SAUM why is it dead when the SAUM had taken of!

Simply bc Winchester was sued by the inventor of the Cartridge for Royalties and they lost, so they dropped it and continued with its children they developed. The 7WSM will equal velocities of the 7MM Weatherby in equal barrel lengths. I have both and they are within 15fps of each other. It is no slouch, it is a great cartridge. Well behaved and very accurate. Winchester should have paid the money and kept it. Killed off due to greed, not performance. Shame.
I don't see how a 7wsm offering more velocity in stock form compared to a SAUM would be considered dead?
Throat them both and the WSM still outruns the SAUM.

The wsm will always outperform tbe saum, period, if you are unawere of that then do some research. The saum is not a bad cartridge, the wsm just can do everything it can do and more. The saums were limited by the rem short action, they will not handle the wsms. Dont shoot the messenger, just because you dont like the truth of the message.

Yes. My SAUM w/defiance deviant running 175's just a hair under 3.00 in the SAUM netting 2850 FPS max pressure w/reloader 23. (22 inch barrel)
hunting partner runs his 7wsm w/180 Berger's under a mild load of 4831SC right at 2950 FPS out of his Montana 1999 action. (24 inch barrel) I cannot member overall length offhand but definitely longer then sammi.
I'm stomping on the pedal for 2850 in the SAUM and he's @ idle w/his load out of the wsm. I'm sure with reloader 23 or 26 he could really bump up the velocity.
not exactly apples to apples with my shorter barrel but enough to gather a pretty good idea that the WSM runs away from the SAUM.
just our first hand knowledge here - not gospel. Everyone has their own experiences- just voicing what we have came across.

Probably can't go wrong with any of them, just making sure your reamer for the saum or wsm has more freebore than a saami reamer if you are gonna shoot 175gr & up. Usually Most all saami reamers on a 7mm rm will work fine with 175& up cause the 7mm rem mag was originally designed back in 1962 for heavies, not the same longer low drag heavies we use today but never the less, 180s work fine. You will have ample room to seat long. Buy some nosler or adg 7mm rem mag brass, retumbo, 180s, 8.44 to 8.75 twist barrel and it won't be long until you are smiling. Ive got two of them. A factory unbraked sendero 9lbs and a Savage with a 26" proof cf & muzzle brake. 6lb 11oz. Both like 180 eldms @2860fps. Brass lasts forever. The savage kicks like my unbraked 7mm-08 x-bolt and has less muzzle jump. Very fun to shoot.
