Whats the cartridge you LOVE to HATE?

416 Rigby. It was really not the fault of the rifle, but it permanently damaged my hearing after one shot without ear protection. The only other rifle that just causes me to roll my eyes is a Tikka 6.5 CM. I guess I just don't like to run with the "cool crowd".

Let's be honest, everyone has one. Whether you had a bad experience or you just don't buy into all the hype, whats the cartridge that makes you roll your eyes as soon as you hear its name?

1. Any cartridge by Hornady.
2. Anything .277 caliber, but more specifically the 270 Win. It's just never appealed to me. Never understood the fascination with the 6.8SPC either.

All things Creedmoor. Compare the ballistics of a 6.5 CM with the 6.5x55 in the same twist rate and you will find the the 140 year old 6.5x55 provides virtually the same performance. The venerable 6mm Rem outruns the 6CM. Not sexy perhaps, but the numbers tell the story.

That said, I do own a 6.5 CM which I enjoy shooting but It absolutely drives me crazy when I hear guys at the range talking about it as though it somehow possesses the ability to defy the force of gravity.

I, too, have a 6.5 CM and 6.5x55 Swede; that is why I responded as such in #16.

For $20 and <half MOA at 200Y with factory ammo (https://www.longrangehunting.com/threads/i-got-my-first-6-5-cm-for-20.201958/page-3), I have no reason to.

Personally I'd put the 6.5cm and 270 in about the same class. And yes more so the people that push it over the actual cartridge itself.

The 6.5CM derangement syndrome always makes me laugh, I feel that it makes otherwise intelligent people lose objectivity. Cartridges are just tools like anything else, you pick the right one for the job.

I love to love the creedmoor out of hate . I don't even have one (and I won't- more of a .270 guy for that range of application)! But at this point the mob mentality groupthink in my circles is to hate in the 6.5 creed so just to go against the grain i'll recommend it haha. Anything that gets new shooters, especially young shooters, into our sport is friend not foe! Plus it's just fun making the hyper-masculine/insecure and loud types uncomfortable .

I don't hate any cartridge but I will say the 7mm rem mag always seemed like a wasted opportunity. A bit of a turd. Okay fine I'll say it

THE 7mm REM MAG IS A TURD!!!!

At least with how Remington handled it. Give it no freebore and a SAAMI kpsi limit notably weaker than the 270 or .300 win mag and voila! A belted magnum that barely outperforms the .270 Winchester while requiring a longer barrel, heavier rifle, burning more powder for more blast and recoil, and costing more money. And doesn't hold a candle to the .300 Winnie for a true all purpose North American hammer of a cartridge.

The original 7mm mashburn is a beast. And yhe 7mm weatherby is about perfect. Same capacity as the rem mag but appropriate psi allowed and the freebore lets it shine.
