What rifles you guys running for varmint hunting?

A lot of my one time groups were no better than drunken frat boys.

There's a reason none of them were ever allowed back and most left mad when they didn't get a refund after violating my safety agreement.

safety MUST be paramount. My dad has had mules for hunting elk/deer for decades. One rule we have is NEVER carry a chambered rifle in the scabbard. Too **** easy to get excited and pull the rifle out by the trigger. My dads partner lost a mile that way hunting with one of his sons.
I have friends I refuse to go shooting with because they're just too damned careless. Good friends, but my life is still valuable.

I use a 222 necked down to 20 cal. 11 &/or 12 twist using the 35 gr Bergers for prairie dogs & 9 twist using 55gr Bergers for Yotes.

I have a pair of Savage model 10 223s with 8 twist McGowan barrels. One shoots 75gr Hornady ELD-Match bullets and the other shoots 77gr Sierra TMKs. Also have a Savage model 112 that I shoot 115gr Bergers. All three have decent scopes and are sub MOA rifles.

I don't own & haven't shot a rifle since 1978, but I'll chime in. My SSK .250 Sav. AI XP-100 is my long range varmint gun. Killed over 1100 groundhogs, plus coyotes & foxes out to 500+ yards. Did most of those with 85 gr. BTs, but Horn. 110 gr. ELD-Xs are giving that bullet some competition.

Just be careful you'll prolly love it. I had 7 22-250's at one time now I have 1 and 3 22 creedmoors. They definitely have a whollop on coyotes and deer.

204 Ruger (31 HH @ 4345 fps) and 22-250AI (35 HH @ 4730 fps) get the most work, I break out the 6mm Rem (70 HH @ 3860 fps) if the wind is up. When I really want to reach out and touch something, I grab the 7 STW (101 HH @ 3863 fps). It flips 10 pound groundhogs in the air like they were 2 pound prairie dogs.

Glad to see one guy has a 17 WSM as it's my fav in PD country! I also love the 20PPC, and I tale one of my 6 Creedmoors for really long shots. But it's amazing how far the 40gr. pill out of the 20PPC will whack em. Ditto the WSM.
