What is your favorite bullets for hunting and target and why?

I generally shoot custom bullets for match. I have run Berger for match and they shoot well also. As far as hunting goes I run Bergers in all my guns below 338 caliber because bc was good and they shot consistent and have not had an issue yet to make me look for something else. I run CEB Lazers in 338 caliber due to consistency and bc and expands down to a lower velocity.

Amen to the Hornady 53 gr Match in my 1952 Sako Varmint 222. My wife was deadly on paper at 100 yards, it could not be beat back in the day,
in various contests. 0.113"- 3 shot and shes taken plenty of coyotes in calling contests.
My Ruger 22-250 Ruger M2 Varmint likes Nosler 55BT's and has done well in contests out to 550 meters. Farthest coyote taken with this was at 385 laser measured yards, head shot on the Mescalero.
My Remington 700 varmint in 6mmAI, Hornady 87gr vmax and has taken coyotes at very long distances.

I switched to Barnes TTSX when they came out and haven't used anything else since. Hunting/paper doesn't matter. I run them at the upper end of the pressure and have even killed 2 deer with one bullet. Damage was perfect on both. Instant kills always due to shot placement...but it would be the same with any bullet as I did that with Nosler Ballistic Tips as well. I did not know they made the Ballistic Tips tougher ... but now that I do, i may try them again in a select rifle or two.

I have been running the 230Berger out of a 300 RUM for shooting and hunting and have never lost an animal or had a bad experience with them. I just switched this past year to the 230 A-Tip because of the enormous BC and haven't been disappointed. Shot a bull at 533yds and he was DRT and a whitetail at 120yds and also DRT.

Well….ya followed-up on your threat!😜

Barnes: Only enough on paper to do load development and recheck zero's occasionally. The only bullet that we (wife and I) use for hunting!

Oh wait……I use cast in my plinking/hunting handguns. Cast bullets for hunting ….. 400's in my S&W 460 and 430's in my Marlin GG in 45-70. memtb
The other day, me and a friend where talking about bullets. So here's my 2 cents. I shoot a 45-70 I cast the gold bullet depending on what I'm hunting. I cast up around 16 to 18 burnel hardness down to somewhere around 13. It does everything I need it to do.
The rifle is an 1886 Winchester. And yes, I have put this rifle on paper, out to 600 yd. But to be honest, I have only taken deer at 200 or so, That's my 2 cents.

So as a belt and suspenders kind of FUDD. Ain't met a critter I couldn't drop with a Nosler Partition from the frozen ice pack to the blazing heat of savannah! Not to mention that I've shot a few SMK's in Palma completion and afield with positive results. Why do you think that Uncle Sam keeps loading SMK's in two way range competition if they fail? YUP, proven performance over time tends to trip my trigger. 🤔

I used Barnes TTSX in the past and they do hammer deer. I switched to Berger then to Hornady ELD-X. I've been using the ELD-X last few years. I neck shoot under 200 yards, and the last deer I shot I used ELD-M. It looked like the neck was cut with a machete, it completely bled out on the spot. I just recently bought some of the Barnes LRX to try in a 300WSM and 7PRC. I'm also going to load so of the Lehigh Defense control chaos in my .308. The 110 gr. CC in my 300 Ham'r worked really well.

For matches (600 yard F-Open and short range Benchrest) I use Sierra MatchKing and Berger VLD.

For load development and informal range days I tend to shoot a lot of Hornady SST.

For hunting my go to bullets are the Nosler Ballistic Tip and the Berger VLD for meat.
Coyotes and varmints I use Sierra HP Varmint and the BlitzKing.

For my pistols, both semi auto and revolver I use Missouri lead bullets and Sierra JHP.

For hunting it depends on the caliber I'm using but for deer I like berger elite hunters, vld hunters, and Hornady cx bullets. Target- Berger hybrids are king. The newer Hornady bthp show promise in 6mm. The 140 eldm or 143 eldx are hard to beat for a 6.5 creed.
