Local smith or Micky G's. I know McGowans work only from accessories but those accessories were pretty spanky. I'd happily go that way.
I have used Tubbs on two guns. One a weatherby vanguard 6.5 Creedmoor went from 1.5 moa to .75 moa the other not so much. If there is anything there it might help you get it. The word crapshoot comes to mind.Yes, I'm satisfied it's not the load... Bullet, powder, primer, etc. May try Tubbs. Have used them in a different gun before but couldn't tell that it made any difference. Have you had good luck with them?
Your rifle probably just broke in and pushed you out of a small node that it liked. That is not at all uncommon for a factory barrel. Look for a wide node and change the powder. What bullets are you shooting?Hey,
I've got a 270 Xbolt that used to be an incredible shooter... shot multiple 5 shot groups in the .4s. However, the group sizes have since opened up over 1" and I've been scratching my head trying to figure out why. I did all the normal stuff, checking scope, rings, action screws, brass, even trying to re-work the load. I recently bought a bore scope so I could take a look at the barrel of this gun and my other rifles. I compared the barrel of my 270 to several other guns and found some things in this barrel that I didn't find in any other gun. I'll post pics below.
Pic 1 looks to be some kind of fouling, but I don't know. I've used multiple different types of cleaners (foams, Butch's, Boretech Cu2, etc) with both patches and bronze brush. This evening I switched to Losso and the patches are coming out black, black.
Pic 2 seems to show some kind of scarring/pitting???
Pic 3 this is toward the very end of the barrel (muzzle). I have no idea what this is.
Can anyone help me interpret these photos and advise me on steps I should take moving forward? Thank you in advance.
I was shooting Berger 130 Classic Hunters with H4831. In my original load work up it shot 4 different powder charges very well. I've since tried two different powders and still no luck. I'll look for the original target and see if I can post it.Your rifle probably just broke in and pushed you out of a small node that it liked. That is not at all uncommon for a factory barrel. Looks like the rifle did well then. Maybe change the load details. Maybe heavier bullets and different powders?Original load work up.
I've since switched to 140 classic hunters. Again, I've tested every detail you can imagine from the loading perspective.Looks like the rifle did well then. Maybe change the load details. Maybe heavier bullets and different powders?
Don't know what to say without having it at my place to play with. Maybe try to shoot in on a day you are shooting another rifle under 1/2 moa?I've since switched to 140 classic hunters. Again, I've tested every detail you can imagine from the loading perspective.
Good idea. I plan to take shoot it again next time I get a chance and I'll babe a couple other guns with me. If it doesn't shoot after cleaning it with Iosso I'll probably give up and rebarrel.Don't know what to say without having it at my place to play with. Probably not the best idea to give up on a barrel. It shot good before. I am a consistant 1/2 moa shooter. I can't expect my rifles to be 1/4 moa rifles.Good idea. I hear ya. I'd be fine if it was consistently 3/4", but it's often been over 1".Probably not the best idea to give up on a barrel. It shot good before. I am a consistant 1/2 moa shooter. I can't expect my rifles to be 1/4 moa rifles.
How do you know that you are a better shooter than moa? Not a jerk remark by the way. Just in all seriousness?I hear ya. I'd be fine if it was consistently 3/4", but it's often been over 1".
Did you see the pics I posted above? How do you know that you are a better shooter than moa? Not a jerk remark by the way. Just in all seriousness?
