what is "used" 338 bolt gun market right now?

Rockwind
I'm like you I hate to mess with listing and selling stuff. What I do is I'll watch the most similar items on gunbroker for a bit to see what they actually sell for in the end. I just put a few in my watch list and wait too see. It also shows what they aren't selling for sadly
good advice, thanks.

I went into a gun shop the other day with a marlin 444 and they told me they paid 50%
Kinda takes the fun out of it. But on the other hand I drove there in my car and burned fuel and used tires all of which I never expected to get back🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
Since I have been thinning the collection...

That seems "standard" if the GS buys the gun outright. Consignment, %10 to %20. I am told Gun Broker is %18 but I have not listed anything there yet. All set up for it though. ;)

Sell it here, %0. Maybe "supporting member" required, member for 30 days. I still don't understand it all. I'm trying to get info on some stuff from @Chris but it's holidays and it's not that important.

holy crap, 18% on gunbroker? geeez. i thought this was one of the last free classified forums but maybe it's changed. i've had good luck on the hide selling a 50bmg scope and my 375 cheytac but i have never been much of a seller, tons of purchases off all the big sites though over the years. sigh,, gotta take pics and figure out how to upload. then you know someone is going to want better pics,,, it's such a schlep. i just don't think my kids are going want any of my 338's or reloading stuff.

I could be wrong. Might be for FFLs because that is who told me. I haven't listed anything yet.

If you want to sell, you're going to have to put a bit of effort in. Take good clean photos, anticipate questions like weight, barrel length, round count, etc.

For figuring cost, try to search out similar rifles and what they've sold for on the classifieds, gunbroker, etc and then go a bit lower. You see several posts in the classified here that are nothing but "bump" "take to the top", etc for months because the seller has priced to high and/or won't budge on the price.

I really dislike trying to sell stuff but getting older and too many pews and reloading presses). is anyone on here always buying and selling,, as in very in touch with the market? i have 3 different 338s i was going to list (along with too many other pews). weatherby 340 mark v i think with nice zeiss scope, AIAX folding chassis, defensive edge terminator 338 ackley improved +P. am i going to end taking a like 50% loss? any demand for these particular rifles? keeping my kirby allen 338 AI Raptor. i put the AIAX along with 300 rds of ammo on the hide a few years ago and some hack offered like 1000 it's got to be worth more than that, i would hope. well,,, flame on or helpful responses appreciated

I wish selling used Custom Rifles was the same as selling Powder/Primers/Good Actions with the high % Mark Up over the past few years.

I've always priced used custom guns based on the value of the used action, stock, and any bottom metal. A used barrel has practically no value in my mind. I have a handful of guns that need to be sold, and they'll all get priced that way. Used guns are just like an average used car, they're used and just not worth as much as everyone would like.

Example: I have a 338/408 CT Improved specialty pistol that belonged to a friend who passed. I don't have the time to use that gun to its full potential, and neither of his kids has much interest in hunting/shooting, especially with something that specialized. So in that case, it makes more sense to sell the gun and put the money in an account for his grandkids. That gun probably cost $5-6K to have built using top quality components, built by a top level smith, and a custom stock made from Bubinga wood. That gun might sell for $2500-3000 to the right buyer. It might go for more to the perfect buyer, but I doubt it.
