What mount to use on Thermal

Santa brought me a thermal. It came with a Sightmark 30mm mount.

I've read on here someone only uses ADM Recon mounts and looked at those.

Anything else recommended that will re-zero after removing and replacing on rifle?

Or going from one rifle to another?

Thanks

I have two mounts from Midwest industries they will re-zero just fine. This is my most recent one and it is marked QD (quick detach) but that's not what's in the box. I'm awaiting to hear from customer support now.

It will probably bounce around on AR's, 223 or a 6.5 Grendel.

No plans to put on Bolt action, but if I did, it would be a 308 or less.

I personally have ADM mounts on two thermals. They come back fairly close to zero but not dead on. And I always put them back into the same picatinny slots they came out of. I always need to shoot and adjust to get back to dead on. Honestly the next mounts I purchase will be standard AR style picatinny mounts from Warne, Nightforce, or some other reputable company that I can remove and torque back down with a good torque wrench.

Thanks for the input yall. Until I get a monocular, I'd like to be able to pull off the rifle and scan, then reattach.

A buddy of mine recommended BoBro mounts. Had never heard of them.

Since I move mine between guns, I use a LaRue QD mount. It ain't cheap at $450 w tax, but it returns zero every time.

Ive been messing around with thermals and have a pulsar clip on. Main reason is that night hunting is secondary to day hunting for wolves and the rules have just changed. I considered a mount like you are discussing and going to a long range thermal and I can reattach my long range scope and still be dead on. People on the thermal forums said it won't work, will require rezero confirmation.

Do you feel confident the larue will be dead on for this? Hate to spend that money and it be another paper weight

I take mine off and scan with it instead of using the gun to scan. Also, I'll keep mine tucked away inside my jacket. Batteries last longer and a warm scope will not fog up from your breath.

As long as you put it back on the exact same spot on the rail, yes, mine is going to be within a 1/2 MOA or dead nutz.

A good quality rail is beneficial.

I also believe their warranty is top notch b

I bought two of the ADM Delta-C full titantium QD cantilever scope mounts for an AR-10. I mounted a Pulsar thermal on one and a NF NX8 on the other. I haven't shot it a ton but have tested the zero at 165 yards by switching the scopes back and forth back and forth and zero was extremely close... within an inch. As others stated, take a picture of each on the picatinny to ensure you put them in the same spot.

I was fortunate that my thermal came with a QD mount. Makes it super quick and easy to swap out the thermal for another scope or whatever you might use on your picatinny rail. I do know that Monstrum has a lot of affordable QD options and they have worked fine for me.

One thing to check before you get to far into outfitting your rifle to mount the thermal is what amount of recoil the thermal can take. Most low end thermals can't take the heavy recoil of large caliber rifles.

I have a pulsar scanner. Just got the new Telos xp50 with lrf. I use the scanner all day too. For years I've run a helion xp50. Pretty nice tool for locating predators. My only complaint right now is now is the clip on is not confidence inspiring yet. My longest kill is 340. It was dead on but I've missed a few past that guessing on distance and playing the hold game. That's why I've moved to the lrf and also my consideration for a better thermal rifle optic

Bobro, from my research anyway, appears to be a very solid choice.

I plan to do some experimenting with my thermal and the ADM mounts. I've never really had time to sit at the range and remove, replace and fire to do some serious testing. I do know that I like mounts that attach with two attachment points to the rail .vs the single clamp designs.

I read where you said you may need something to scan with. I originally purchased an AGM Adder TS 50 x 384 to leave on the rifle and scan with it on the rifle. I regularly kill deer at 400-450 using the Adder. Scanning with the rifle works but certainly wasn't ideal. Pretty quickly I realized I needed something separate to scan with. I looked at monoculars but then had another idea. What I ended up doing was buying an Agm Rattler V2 25 x 256. I made a sling for it and it works great as a scanner. Surprisingly so for the $1000 price. The plus side is that I can put it on another rifle and have an extra gun with thermal if my son wants to go. That little scope has been amazing for the price. My son has killed several deer with it out to 200 yards and a bit beyond that. It will actually detect heat sources on smaller animals well beyond that range which is a plus. It has 11 hours of battery life on a single battery and comes with 2 rechargeable batteries. Much better battery life than the origina Rattlers. Plus it has a 5 year warranty.
