What is the one piece of hunting/shooting advice you would give yourself if you could go back in time

Soak up and enjoy the days of hunting with your grandparents and parents. They are far too few and gone too soon. Take your kids hunting. Show them what it is about the outdoors that you love so much. Celebrate their achievements and always remember to take lots of pictures.

As a young man, don't bother with collecting nice rifles and pistols and do not buy a new truck. Do not waste money on building hot rods or any other expensive hobby.
Buy your first house as soon as you can. Quit paying rent.
Buy good hunting land!

It is more rewarding to hunt your own 40 acres most weekends with an old 30-30 than spend so much on custom rifles that you can go hunting only 5 or 6 times a year.

I wish I would have started elk hunting and hunting out West sooner. I let too many years go by. Probably could have got my dad to go back then.
Also, work on one cartridge at a time and enjoy it, don't try to cram more than one into a short period of time.

When budgeting for your first rifle/scope combo, spend 3/4 of your budget on your scope/mounts and the remainder on your rifle.

Hunt more when younger. Hunting after some debilitating life changes is harder and less effective.
Get more out of your rifle as opposed to buying more rifle capability.

Start doing long range rifle competitions sooner. After competing for a few years, you understand wind and ballistics a lot better, and some of those tough shots in the field get a lot easier.
