This may not be acceptable by some as a proper answer to thd OP's question….but, I think that it is relevant!
In 1985, I took a substantial pay cut with a job relocation to Wyoming. I had to learn a completely different set of job skills, and learn a completely different way of life.……things here in Wyoming are a bit different than in Louisiana.
For these sacrifices I got, almost unlimited public land to shoot on distances way beyond what someone can shoot with anything short of a Cruise Missile. It also afforded me the opportunity to hunt many animals that I had dreamed of hunting ever since I was a young kid!
Over the years, the financial losses where more than made up for and the shooting remains available…..even if I didn't take advantage of it!
I guess that you could say, "the money I initially lost was the best money that I spent on shooting sports"!
