What do you think they should get?

They were sheep ranchers in Wyoming shooting goldens if I remember correctly.
In several states, not just Wyoming. One time when hunting in unit 7 in Nev. I had taken a deer. gutted it and open it up to cool. It was late in the day and if I missed the trail to get back to camp, I was in trouble.
The next day I when back after it. Sitting on the deer was a bald eagle filling up.
Told the outfitter about it. He said he never seen an bald eagle in that part of the country, and there wasn't any there. I know and it wouldn't be hard to determine what type of eagle it. The area that I came from had Golden Eagles until the middle 70's. Then the bald eagle showed up. We have both now or I think that the cases. Not sure how many if any golden eagles are here now. The farmlands are now housing tracts.

Right On! Back in the 50 and 60's I read about people flying plane, and shooting eagles from the air. Outdoor Life, Field & Stream, and a few others.
I would assume since flying a plane was involved there wasn't that many doing it ? I tend to agree with the DTT theory having a wider impact on the birds than a few misguided hunters. Not sure why they were shooting them ? But would be curious to know why they thought it was such a good idea ? Were they ranchers or such ? Because using a plane takes some cash & or knowledge even back then. How many States did they do this in ?

They wonder how these, birds of prey, get the Lead shot in their systems. Watching few hundred ducks, in a flooded hay field, in Fall of the year. All at once, fifty or so ducks lifted off. Then a falcon made a dive bombing run, connected with a fat Mallard, boom! Big puff of feathers, the duck was out cold and falcon 30ft away righted itself, walked and hopped over to the duck. In seconds he was talons and beak ripping off chunks of mallard breast and gobbling em down. Ya can see the owls and hawks at the wildlife areas, picking up cripples after the weekend hunters leave, if, they get em before the coyotes. In the lead shot days, pretty sure some flying meateaters could pickup a few lead BB's.

Education… these Honduran men who needed an interpreter most likely didn't know or understand that big meal was illegal. It's not an excuse but being hungry we would make some crazy decisions ourselves. There were going to eat it, to me it wasn't going to waste. Im not saying it's ok it's just my opinion.

Ignoraince is no excuse. These foreign illegal aliens pull this dumb stuff all the time. People don't eat carrion. The Bible t ells us to nit eat Eagle,Hawks,Buzzards,Raven..Return them to Honduras

So how much of an impact did it have on those hawks & owls that ate the shot up bird ? Assuming they even ate the wounded bird. After all the years of using lead shot. It's a wonder anything has survived.

Luckily they were in Nebraska. Had they been in Rocky Mountain NP, they of might of had to shoot an ELK, Bison, or God forbid a Bighorn Sheep for their campfire meal. Not thinking many Hunters would settle for the, they were just hungry excuse on that.

Not sure if it did any thing to them, but that's a way Lead can get into the system, of a bird of prey. Quite easily. Usually if you see a bird of prey, flying away with a duck hanging from his talons, they plan on eating said duck, back at the nest, with their young un's.

They were rancher, and using shotguns. I don't think they were missed guided, but doing what they though was needed. What was been done then, isn't done now. It's a learning curve, just like everything else. Live and learn is life, but not learning is stupid. I feel that every day that I learn something new is a great day. Never to old to learn something new. Can't always apply it, but nice to know. If you are able to apply what is being shown you, you are ahead of the game of life.

I will be the first to suggest that we (everyone, not just America) are destroying our planet with chemicals, heavy metals, ect. And, I'll not take a side in the lead/fowl, not foul, discussion…..but will offer this. Sometimes animals/fish/fowl simply cease to exist……it's been happening since the beginning of time. I don't think man has contributed to the extinction of untold hundreds of thousands of species over time……often they simply do not adapt to change. We can't save them all!

Should we do a much better job of policing our actions as humans…..absolutely!

I really do wish they would hurry and bring back the Wooly Mammoth……I'd really like to stuff a Barnes or two into one! 😉 memtb
You bring up good points. The thing that is problematic here is that the man made toxins being released into the environment are not only affecting the animals but are also affecting mankind. Lead shot started being used because it was cheap, available, and effective. More often than not, the animals start having health problems sooner that humans. Many factors cause this. Such as, weight, nervous system, and live birth vs egg laying. And more others than I could count. We are now (admitting) that after 20 years, personnel exposed to burn Pits are coming down with horrible afflictions. Myself included. But the damage is done. It's not like anyone exposed actually ate it. Some were litterly covered and others just inhaled fumes. Look at the after effects. As some point we (mankind) must stop putting the almighty buck in front of our stewardship of the only planet we have. Once we contaminate it, its over! The balance here is the crap show of pros and cons. If we are to survive, hard decisions must be made. I do not have the necessary experience to make those decisions. I pray someone does and will make the sound decisions!

I was referring to the ones injured that they did not get. Something else most likely ate them. But I never heard much about them dying of lead poison. Or whatever decided to eat them. I wonder how many excrete the lead they eat ? Or is this not even a possible scenario ? Or just spit out while chewing on said meat ? We are to assume these animals just blindly eat it all. This is kind of what I am getting to. We assume a lot of things over reports from so called experts. I am amazed almost daily at the crazy stuff I see that I thought never possible. I'm not saying lead may not have impacted a few critters. But not enough to disrupt their existence. Otherwise we would have been seeing it decades ago. I'm actually amazed we have not seen some photo shopped pictures of 100s of bbs just sitting beside a dissected condor or eagle. I say give them time. But at this point it is not even necessary. lol

I think we're missing a couple of Big points here. It is all part of liberal misdirection and agenda setting. The Condor was Komiforni's latest spotted owl. They spent over a million $ on each Condor in the state. They vilified lead bullets as the cause of their decline. Then they banned lead bullets and shot in the 'Condor Cirridot'. That wasn't 'helping' so they banned lead statewide. Their goal was anti-gun and anti-hunting dressed up as conservation. Total smokescreen. The same is true with global warming and green energy. Another con for re-distribution of wealth. Like another con - police are bad…this one is a front for the 'equity' crowd and 'reparations'. What they really mean is that if you won't give it to us - we're gonna come take it from you anyway. It's like learning a whole new language!!
