What cartridge/bullet for hog hunting?

25-06 will do fine...Tim Wells takes them with a spear! I take them weekly here with a 6.5 grendel.
My 25-06 is my beater rifle. I used it for my trial run with the absolute hammers. Shoots really good. I will bring it with me and maybe a couple others. I'll see which ones I do best off a tripod for starters. I doubt if the guy that invited me was shooting much for distance but you never know. I'll try to load up everything with the hammer bullets since they're easy load work up. Was supposed to start on the 270wsm of my brothers with the 116's anyways

I recently got an open invite to go hog hunting in Texas. I'm from Washington and don't have a clue. I suspect the guy that invited me doesn't really either, he's a big shot for a multi billion dollar co. and recently transferred down there and out of the blue called me all excited saying he recently went and gave me an open invite. Seriously thinking about it. I've got varmint barrel chassis 22 creedmoor,25-06, 6.5 creedmoor 6.5-300 270 wsm 300wsm and bigger but I'm gathering smaller is better?? I'm leaning towards winter time to get out of the rain. Any suggestions would be appreciated
I like the Ruger scout site in 450 bushmaster, 1895 Marlin 45-70 or 450 Marlin. All short in length and all weather plus plenty of *** for hogs.

Any of the OP's rifles will be just fine for hogs if he chooses the right bullet. Bolt actions will get you one shot most of the time. This is why autos are so popular. After the first shot they flush like quail, and can get gone really quick. AR's are king for this, and the best choice by far. Both large frame and small frame have their advantages, and have their place. Neither are ever the wrong answer. Fantastic excuse to own an Evil Black Rifle if you don't have one. A case can be made for every cartridge the AR15 and AR10 are chambered in, but my choice is small frame in 6.8.

The .25-06 will be fine.
A .308 would be good if you want to buy another Rifle, cheap and effective.

You guys can do them in an AR10.

Aussies use Rem 7600 pump action s among others.

I also find the 7mm-08 effective with 140gn

What part of Texas would you be hunting? I have hunted West Texas for the last 10 yrs , I use a 300 win mag and 200 gr Eldx out to 500 yds. The group I hunt with gives me first shot and the long poke out to 500 + yds because I shoot a bolt gun , they all shoot Ar10 in .308. I shoot 1/4 the ammo they shoot but I'm shooting at calm animals most of the time.

Any from the 25.06 up will be more than enough. A friend's son used my Weatherby in .243 Winchester using 80 grain Barnes TSX to kill a pig well over 300 lbs, though it was a close shot. Same friend shot a 200 lbs. pig at 100 yards with 6.5 Creedmore, again using a Barnes TSX.

Something lightweight and quick...my choice for you 25-06 or 270 wsm...

We have killed truck loads of them here in Oklahoma with about every caliber you can think of 22 LR - 50 BMG. All calibers in the op will get it done with proper shot placement. We mostly hunt them at night now with AR Platforms. Pick the gun(s) you are most comfortable with and get to slaughtering. Mono bullets are better for the smaller calibers and larger pigs. The smaller pigs are usually tastier but I've cooked large ( 300 lb plus) boars that tasted great. The absolute best tasting ones for me are the 20 lb and under. If it has spots it's going to be delicious lol. Skin and gut them cover with butter and what ever seasoning you like wrap in foil and put them on the grill for awhile. Now I'm hungry...

He said he's 5 minutes from the gulf an somewhere near a major city? He told me but it was 630am and I was hustling actually to meet a friend to go shooting and I can't remember. I've got 300 wsm, 300 weatherby and 300prc. All of them shoot extremely good with handloads. I just thought they were to big and my brain always thinks of meat damage. Maybe not such an issue with the hammers? I'm definitely going to find out more info before I go.

.416 Rigby. Hands down! 😁😁😁
Seriously? A peashooter like that'll almost certainly bounce off the 5th leg. Boy, I'd say 500 Nitro minimum - just keep it light enough to handle (8 lbs) and go with a 10 shot clip and soft eyecups on the eyepiece. Minimal recoil with that setup. You'll be able to shoot as fast as you can stand back up. Bazooka the best bet when you got a sounder to deal with.

Didn't read all of the responses, but i live in TX all my life, I have hunted hogs on my property with an AR-15 5.56 behind the ear drop and no sound. I know people will come up with reasons to use bigger, I have a 6.5 Grendel that I use now, but it is all about shot placement. If you plan to shoot them in the shoulder, carry your 6.5 Creed, matter of fact if that is all you are shooting, then that is what I would take. They are not King Kong like some want to believe, I have killed them with 22 LR as well, all roads lead back to shot placement, and that is for anything.
