What cartridge/bullet for hog hunting?

Another vote for the 6.5 Grendel on an AR15 platform. I live in San Antonio and night hunt hogs with a Grendel and thermal setup. It is a deadly combo.
Your 6.5 Creed or larger will do just fine

I recently got an open invite to go hog hunting in Texas. I'm from Washington and don't have a clue. I suspect the guy that invited me doesn't really either, he's a big shot for a multi billion dollar co. and recently transferred down there and out of the blue called me all excited saying he recently went and gave me an open invite. Seriously thinking about it. I've got varmint barrel chassis 22 creedmoor,25-06, 6.5 creedmoor 6.5-300 270 wsm 300wsm and bigger but I'm gathering smaller is better?? I'm leaning towards winter time to get out of the rain. Any suggestions would be appreciated

I'll roll with whoever is taking us process but I really would like to try some. Sounds like size, sex, what they're feeding on and processing is key but since I don't have a clue, I'll go with the flow. Really appreciate all the advice. I'm ok off a tripod, never tried sticks. Off hand is average.

I built an AR-10 in 6.5 Creedmoor (22" barrel) nearly for the sole purpose of hog hunting ... and I would never take it hog hunting! lol

It is just way heavier than I anticipated and not something I'd want to carry around. Now if you're driving a wheeler to a blind and setting up shop for the night then that's one thing, but I would never want to carry this thing over my shoulder any given distance.

So now I'm left with a AR-10 that I've only shot at the range a couple times that I have no real use for other than ticking off the lefty's! Luckily for me my hog hunting plans haven't come to fruition just yet but I will be building a new 6.5 Grendel on the AR-15 platform to get me the ballistics I'm after in a more manageable platform. Or if I know the ranges will be a bit tighter I would also probably take my AR-15 in 350 Legend using 125gr Hammers.

And if you want to get real personal about it, there are guys who do dog and dagger hunts. The hounds run them down, then a trained pitbull grabs an ear and pulls the head down while you run in and knife 'em. A little too much for me I think. It's a real adrenaline rush but get's you into a lot of squealing and blood.

25-06 will do fine...Tim Wells takes them with a spear! I take them weekly here with a 6.5 grendel.

In Tennessee I've killed em with 270wcf, 270wsm, 6.5cm. Shot placement is key. Vitals or right below the ear.

I have never hunted hogs, BUT , I have an Inter arms 20 inch BBL 30-06 Mauser action with a Manlicher stock. 1.5X to 5 X Leupold Vari X 3 with a 30mm tube. I would so love to use that set up with 150 grn to 160 grn tough Nosler Accubonds or Partition bullets for hogs in the day time. That would really be fun

I grew up hunting hogs at night with dogs in South Texas….all we used was a 22 pistol.….it's not quite as simple as a pit bull pulling their head down while you run in for the kill. We lost a lot of dogs!

I bet you did. Boars can be real nasty. Only reason I know about it is some friends were down in TX recently and that's how they did it. I think the guides were careful what size pigs they let the pitbull go for. Kept him on a leash till they could see the pig.
