What can be done with poachers on game cams??

Turn all evidence to law enforcement. They are better equipped and trained to deal with poachers. Poachers may be involved with illegal hunting as a cover when they might be involved with other criminal activity. Game wardens work closely with local law. They also, in nearly all states, can work without a warrant.

Poachers can become very violent. When you see a poacher don't confront. Get licence plates, photos of damages or destroyed fences and gates and other info and then turn over to the law.

Make sure No Trespassing signs are clearly posted. Replace missing or damages signs.
What do you suggest when you role that all up into a nice neat package including high definition photos with possession of game animal and then when you follow up with the conservation officer the response is "look, what do you want me to do about it?"? This happened while the person was physically on the lease after the report.
I contacted the local FBI field office who referred me to local law enforcement which were completely disinterested. Res
Just curious, did you go through police or fish and game? I'm most states it's much easier to get convictions or citations through the fish and game than local police. Fish and game don't have to go through a lot of the red tape police do. Of course, the felon has to be in the act of hunting (which can include scouting) for them to have jurisdiction.
Close friend of mine was told after rapping it all into a nice neat package with high definition photos including game animal in possession "what do you want me to do about it?".
One of the previous posts is correct, you need to be highly trained and able to manage a violent conflict completely alone if you confront someone like this. If you have the luxury of effective and dedicated conservation officers use them. IF not, well, see previous post or phone a capable friend.

Sorry for all the trouble these guys are causing you. Definitely get the Sheriff involved. If they vandalize your fence again now you have destruction of property and trespassing. Builds a stronger case against them.

Hi all,

So if you followed any of my recent posts, you know that we're trying to start buck management on our property of 600 acres in central WV. Well one of the main issues is that we have poachers moving onto our property and killing bucks while we aren't there (property is around 1.5 hrs from where I reside). Well over the past few nights we have pictures of some guy at 3:55 am on our property with a rifle and a night vision scope. We know exactly who it is, confronted him, and he claims he was "hunting coyotes". My question is: is there anything that can be done? Is a picture from a game cam enough to give to a game warden?
Thanks!
If your property is posted every 600' by a 12"x12" red sign in Idaho, you can call your Sheriff's office and have him arrested for trespassing. The prosecutor will use the video on photo for evidence against him. Additionally, if he is carrying a firearm it will bring enhanced charges and the firearm will be confiscated. Trespassing penalties are severe in Idaho since they were changed recently. Generally they are put in jail once their jaw gets wired and their nose stops bleeding when I catch them on my farm.

There's a great video of hunter trespassing on YouTube. May help deter them. Word of mouth is usually the best advertising. Bear boards would work also.
The one where A can exploded and covered him and his gun with dye that was a good one

Never had any luck with the sheriff or game Warden around here

Just got off the phone with WV DNR...

The officer that called was very confident he could ID the guy based on the picture. We told him about the history we've had on the property and he gave me his personal phone number in case we catch a poached deer in person anytime in the future.

He is headed to the guys house as we speak and is gonna pressure him into admitting it was him. If he does, he's getting him for trespassing and hunting at night!

It doesn't matter what he was hunting if he is not allowed to be on your property call the game warden prosecute him for trespassing at the very least put him on the radar with the game warden

In most states it is illegal to hunt with night vision/thermal during any part of hunting season. If it is allowed by law, you must have the land owners written permission on your person while hunting. Add that to the trespassing and he will have a pretty stiff fine and probably lose hunting privileges for a few years. LEO's really like to pursue people breaking that many laws.

On Our club we have so many No Hunting /No Trespassing signs , the even have the Number of the state law printed on the sign . The locals Trespass at will, on Quads and Walking dogs. Some times even on weekends when 20 guys are hunting Pheasant. You would have to have the Game Warden on Speed Dial.
A clear case of people can't read!! You need to attach "STUPID" signs below the "No Trespassing signs for them. That way you know, and maybe they can understand that. HA,HA

The officer is taking a big chance going to the guys house.there is a good chance that the guy will shoot the officer for confronting him on his own property.he isnt even allowed by law to do that
