My son and I just returned from a MT cow elk hunt. He made a great shot on his first elk at 127 yards.

When we got to breaking down my cow elk we found a slug just under the skin on the left rear leg at about knee level. There was a small abcess. I am thinking given how the slug is mushroomed it went through another animal or something prior to hitting the elk. There was little to no bruising or damage around the site of bullet and the skin and hair didn't look disturbed.

My slug on the left is a .308 200 grain accubond weighs 176.4 grains, the other bullet, the one in question is .264 caliber which weighs 91.2.

Any thoughts on what the bullet is? It appears to be a bonded bullet.

Looking @ the picture above L to R
130 Sierra tgk is out for me as bt dosent look right nosler partition 125 bt somewhat similar retained weight im not sold on due to shape of the mushroom pill & still a little bit much lead attached to the jacket ( if I'm seeing lead or need to put my glasses on 🤷‍♂️ ) so I'd say that's out the hornady eldm &a tip bt don't look right either

As my interpretation is it's more like the partition but im not discounting the ballistic tip as they both come in 100 gr but the length of the petal Pell back gives me na to light for the recovered pill & ballistic tip comes in a 120 gr weight that @ the velocity impact of 2400 to 2700 most 7mm & 30 cal seem to loose about that 20 to 35 % so that fits for me but a simple way to tell the partition is look @ the base & if no lead showing that's out so I await that please Chris show us the base or let us know

But let's all face it it couldn't possibly have been shot out of a 6.5 CM as think about it the CM will definitely slay elk to way out yonder& you only need to point It right 😜

Only joking on the last bit & having some fun
Cheers

Nosler accubond maybe maybe 6.5 prc since it appears to have gone through another animal first 264 win mag also possibility

Dug out what we thought were 129 sst from an elk in Eastern Oregon about 5 years ago with a few friends. Had a cannelure, about that retained weight and diameter. Not sure if it was pass through or hail marry.
