What bipod for hunting???

I hunt PD and Coyotes only now and my firearms and setups cater to this type of hunting.

It's going to depend on the terrain and what you're hunting. For coyotes and prairie dogs I sit on a small folding chair and use the Swagger QD-42.

I've also used a bipod I made from an old tripod. Removed one leg and it was very steady and easy to move around.

If you're in grass that's over 12" inches, I doubt you would be lying prone so you need something to get you above the grass. I never lay prone any more.

My newest setup is an inverted tripod, 2 leg section tripod with a Armageddon Fat Bag on top. I can shoot standing, kneeling, or sitting in my chair with benchrest accuracy. Easy to carry at 7 lbs over my shoulder or use as a walking stick.

I've tried almost everything. I've always tried to stay lighter weight, with prone height bipods. But last season my buddy let me borrow is Hatch Outwest 27" bipod. It goes from prone to seated height. I ended up killing ALL of my animals in the seated position because of the terrain. That bipod is staying on my gun for the foreseeable future for sure. Super versatile.

Agree 100%. Used the Hatch bipod on an Alaska caribou hunt last year. Worked great on the uneven tundra. Prone to sitting. Easy to adjust. The most versatile bipod I've seen.

When hunting I usually shoot off a tripod, so I want a lightweight but functional bipod. My usual go to right now is the Audere bipod. Carbon fiber an a pretty lightweight packaged.

The MtnGear offerings are REALLY lightweight. I had one that I only tested, but would buy another for the right application.

Harris are fine as a basic option, and I have the real basic Magpul MOE one on a rimfire. I love Atlas and Accu-tac but not for hunting. The only bipod I have every straight up sent back was a MDT GRND Pod. Massively overweight for having carbon fiber legs, and the cerakote on the Brownell's special was practically rubbing off in my fingers.

I've used harris clones, the swagger field model and now I have the spartan javlin (long legs?). The only thing i would change with the spartan is to go to the tac legs.

learn to shoot off your pack or something that is in the environment your hunting in. Bipods are simply another useless weight to carry in the woods & they get hung up on bushes, trees, backpack straps, etc. Also, they make too much noise. Doesn't matter what brand or model, they all make noise & it can/will ruin a hunt.

I don't agree I does matter where you hunt, I've lived and hunted the west for 24 years I'm 57 years old and can still walk most people in the ground and I fill all my tags every year , learn to use your surroundings , your gear and practice all of it a lot , hike all times of the year and carry everything you hunt with including rifle a bow and shoot then you make your own decisions. Take advice yes but don't let blow hards talk smack

I hunt out west. In thick stuff, no bipod. Open county is a different story. The reality is there are situations when hunting that require more than just shooting off of a pack. Tall vegetation, uneven terrain, steep uphill shots, unable to lay prone etc. i have killed antelope, deer , elk and caribou, that without a bipod I would not have been able to take the shot. I have ran several and the Hatch has been the best. Prone to sitting it does the job well.

So what bipod do you recommend for hunting? Also what hight do you find most useful?

This depends on your terrain, position, hunting situations, and budget.

I'll also add depends on the rifle, too…at least for me and my area. If using a centerfire rifle/AR-15 (or rimfire for that matter) a Harris 6"-9" or 9"-13" does just fine. If I'm hunting with my "land cannon" SML then the Accu-Tac FC-4 G2 is what it wears.
I've also used the Bog-Pod 'Death Grip' with success, but mine is the heavy version.

I do use the big pod death grip as well when I know I'm sitting on stand for a while I end up carrying it for my wife as she has R.A and sometimes hard for her to shoot offhand
