What 300 cartridge.

300 PRC or 30 Nosler would be the easy button for 30 cal magnum rounds for the long range crowd. 300WM is a great choice, too, although a little dated with the belt and factory twist rates. 300WSM is a great round, but unless you have a custom chamber, the long bullets eat into the powder capacity.

Anything else in the big 30 cals starts to get a little more "niche."

JMHO

Wanting to get a 300 barrel for my dt srs and trying to decide which one to go with. Wanting one to be able togo buy factory ammo and go stretch it out past 1000 yards. Ive always shot 6.5 and 308 at that distance. Wanting something with a little bit more knock down power at that range. What do you guys recommend?
RUM 💯☑️

I recently ran a pressure test over my Magneto with my new 300 Win. I fired 6 shots to get it on paper then proceeded to collect velocity data with the 225 ELDM and a powder I will not mention. I topped out at 3,085 fps. I was getting definitive pressure signs on the last two shots but one cannot argue that those speeds aren't downright mind blowing. No WSM could ever dream of doing that. I would do Win mag or Norma if it were me and just plan on handloading in the future. If long range or ELR is your ultimate goal, get yourself set up properly so you stop leaving performance on the table

Lefty, I'd gone deaf in my right ear and went to Uni of Utah Hospital last August for surgery so for me and my ears I hope to never be around a brake again in my life....I'll add the can all day long even though I despise the look, weight and balance of them they do freaking work!

Keep both the WM and the WSM at similar and sane pressures and there will be 100 fps give or take diff..........big freaking deal!

Please disclose your load that got you to 3085 with a 300 WM,,pretty sure you won't.

I've been loading metallic cartridges for close to 55 years and thru this I've learned that people can make them do what they will to make them do.

3085 is a good speed for a 180 but sure as heck ain't for a 225............

Nothing even close to 3085 for a 220 let alone for a 225

As I said, I won't disclose the powder. Hence the reason I said I won't mention it. I'm not going to feed into the buying hysteria. So you are correct in that assumption. My other win mag runs 3,100 with H1000 and a 205 EH nowhere near pressure. Just because you've done it for 55 years doesn't mean you know all there is to know

Never said I know all there is to know, sure as heck prove that to myself daily...but 100 fps is going to be the day to day diff between the WSM and the WM that much I do know:)

Just a poor attempt to keep things real is all.

(side note, finally getting a bit of moisture this way today)

They have, a BETTER,.. "Design" ! But yes, those Big, "Mufflers" ( Silencers) Do work ! Very SORRY about, your Hearing loss !
